Nah, everyone was like that.

Really sounded like everyone expected more from NHL gm's as a whole.

Good for OilForLife. Putting himself out there. Great writers don't start out that
way. They develop their skills.

I agree. The way tsn hyped it up I felt like alot of things were gunna happen. And just with the cap dropping and buyouts and all that I figured there would be more movement for teams trying to escape cap trouble

It was just TSN or one guy in specific. Everyone from every City was hyping poop up.

GM's are (frank)ed though. Too much going on for them to keep track of everything. Not sure how many noticed, but there was the comment about how GM's are use to two day drafts that allow them to go home and re-group after round one.

EDMONTON - If the opportunity arose, Calgary Hitmen forward Greg Chase likely wouldn’t pull that stunt again, but he certainly isn’t afraid to try and get the opposition off their game.

Back in October, after scoring the shootout winner in a 5-4 Calgary victory over Edmonton, Chase skated by the Oil Kings bench and blew kisses.

That little tactic will certainly just add to this Battle of Alberta as the Oil Kings and Hitmen opened up their Eastern Conference Final series last night.

“Yeah, if I remember correctly one of their players did something similar to our bench, and I thought it was a good time to give it back to them,” said Chase prior to Game 1.

“But you have to show teams respect in those situations, and maybe it wasn’t the smartest thing to do, but it’s over now and it’s created a buzz in this series and that’s what we want.

“Anytime you can get a guy off their game and obviously there’s a time and a place for that, but you can’t be harming your team. But if it needs to be done, it’s something I’m willing to do.”

Some of the Oil Kings players weren’t enthused by Chase’s antics.

“We know the kind of player he is and we know he’s not going to do anything — he’s not going to challenge anybody,” said Oil Kings forward Mitch Moroz.

“He tries to be a pest, but he doesn’t do a very good job of it.”

Chase is more than just a pest, he’s proven he can put the puck in the net after scoring 17 goals and 49 points in 69 games. The 18-year-old from Sherwood Park is a projected third- or fourth-round pick in the upcoming National Hockey League draft in June. NHL scouts would like to see Chase define his role more.

“When his game is on and he’s doing the work of the foot soldier he’s a pretty effective player, but he’s got to decide what kind of player he wants to be,” said a scout for an Eastern Conference team.

I know this isn't about the Oilers, but I don't even think there are any wild fans on this site. I know you guys see Clutterbuck several times each year. Can somebody tell me something about him?

Very very physical. Hits everything that moves. He plays on the line and sometimes he crosses the line and won't back it up.

I wanted him and thought this was a very good deal for you guys, especially considering Nino wasn't going to play a game for the Isles again.

I do believe he played some first line time in the past as he is a guy that has some offensive talent and can open up room for skilled players.

I disagree. There was a lack of moves by everyone and I will not blame MacT for not wanting to overpay. Look at all the player trades, none of them were within their conferences and from everything we heard we would of had to way overpay to make the deal. To be honest the one trade that happened that I think the price tag for us to get the player would have been acceptable was Frolik.
Bolland - would of cost us more than what TOR paid. Plus it would of only been for 1 year as I would be shocked if he would resign with us.
Clutterbuck - would of liked to get him but seeing what NYI paid I would have to guess it would if costed us PRV +
Schneider - VAN turned down a 1st, 2nd & a prospect, which I am happy about but how can people complain about this.
Frolik - I would have been interested in how much this would of cost us but CHI might not have even contacted us about him.

As for Nurse, it was a very good pick. Yes we have a bunch of D prospects but have no idea where they are really going to fit in the big club. As of right now if we resign gagner 5 of our top 6 is filled for a long time. As for our D we don't have 1 player that would be considered a top pairing player on a cup contending team. We don't need more top 6 forward prospects, we need to develop some top pairing Dmen.
MacT did what he needed to do when he decided not to overpay for 3rd/4th line players, acquire more picks to try and draft those type if players.

I don't think that was ever offered, I thought that was the asking price. Hence why MacT was so pissed

I 100% agree with you, I was dissapointed with almost every pick they selected today. They traded down and missed out on Tristan Jarry who THEY NEEDED and then didn't even pick a crap goalie. I am no longer a fan of MacT, and I can honestly say that I gave him a good chance. What a joke, not one player worth mentioning. I can deal with Nurse cause he has promise but they need to get rid of Lowe and MacTavish before this team does anything, sick of the Ol' Boys club crap this team has been doing for the last decade.

Perhaps this is true. But the question is could Feaster have drafted him lower? I have to believe the answer is yes, and if so, he mismanaged his assets.

Having a good gauge of where other teams value players at the draft is just as important as having a good gauge of where players should be at the draft.

- Leafs43

That was my initial reaction as well, I thought Feaster should have either used the 28th pick or traded down. But after reading up on him a bit, Montreal supposedly had him ranked high as well and there was a strong possibility that they were going to take him at 25. So if that was the case and the scouts really liked him, I guess they had no choice.

I like the Klimchuck pick at 28, very stoked for Monahan and am warming up to the Poirier pick. All in all I'm happy with the Flames draft, they are far away from anything at the moment, hopefully 3-4 years down the road its this draft that sped up the rebuild process a bit.

1) I really like the nurse pick. First pass, puck moving, skating, shutdown and toughness. Everything we needed in a dman. I hope we develop him right. He needs to improve his shot though, he has a serious muffin from the point.

2) was pissed we didn't get fucale, Zykov and carrier but glad to see it turned into a skilled Russian In sleppy with size.

I really came around on Nurse over the weekend. Talking with a bunch of guys who really don't know (frank) all about the players in the draft, the consensus was we need a Pronger again. not sure Nurse will ever get there, but he's the only one we have that has the same tools.

As for #2, I was kinda Meh on Fucale. But that's goalies in the draft as a whole.

no, no, maybe, bleh, no, no. edm will be outbid by many other teams on those players or players will pass on going to edm. despite the outcome of the draft and mac-t wasn't able to close some of the pending deals, i don't want to see edm go out and blow the piggy bank just for the sake of mac-t has to do something.

OTTAWA: Zach Smith, 2nd asset

EDMONTON: Ales Hemsky

And this may be a good idea to take into consideration:

EDMONTON: Paarjavi, 2014 1st, Marcinin,

PHILIDEPLHIA: Colburn

- Oilers4Life14

i wouldn't pay that much for coburn. philly can keep him for that asking price.

heard ristolainen is one nasty player with size and offensive abilities. the one thing i liked about nurse is the guy is a hardworker. kid is in great shape and physique. also comes from a family of athletes. i would have been happy with either one. i was leaning more towards nichuskin though. mac-t did say it was either nurse or nichushkin.

yeah...i would have traded up on that 37th pick to 35th and grabbed fucale. don't know what it would cost, but i would have inquired about it and grabbed fucale and mac-t was after him and as soon as canadiens snagged him, lombardi and mac-t shook hands to edm trading down.

I think his character and work ethic also play into making it a great selection. He has the raw tools similar to a pronger as you mentioned, but willing to constantly improve is key. I've read a few scouting reports he has top pairing potential, which is nice to read. Would've been happy with ristolainen too. Also it's nice to know wee have a dman that will torture baertshi for years as regehr did to hemsky

I figured with two 2nds take a flyer on him since he is highly regarded but ya goalies are a crap shoot.

People have such a boner for Coburn when he is,in all reality, pretty mediocre. I don't think he is any better than Petry. He's an inferior skater, for sure. Not saying he's not a legit top 4 D, just not worth more than a 2nd and a prospect, or a roster player like Smid straight up.
