Santini looks like a Volchenkov that can skate. Sounds like a great utility d-man for the PK AND the rush. The kind of guys you win championships with. I don't disagree with the pick. Under Scott Stevens, maybe he can learn to make a few opposing players "unhealthy scratches".

So Bell killed a woman drunk driving. Well Heatley killed Snyder drunk driving, he's still in the NHL. Probably just means that Bell will do a lot of charity work for the cause.

I'd love to get Horton... I think it's more realistic to look at Ryder.

I'd love to get Brunner... I think it's more realistic to look at Briere.

Just the reality of our situation. Only when these guys are too old to produce will they sign with the Devils (a-la Rolston or Mogilny).

Zubs-Lokti-Kovy
Teddy-Zajac-Bernier

Tg just has alcohol was allegedly involved. May not of been drunk but he was driving at a high speed and recklessly. (frank) i really hope we don't bring in Briere he's done. So many injuries.

Agree with everyone saying we should've tried to jump in and take shinkaruk in the early 20's. Woulda traded the whole rest of the draft of humdrum picks for one standout prospect like him.

Real good day for NJ in my books.

Just hopefully Schneider can realize there is Brodeur for a year or two and then it's his team.

Was real nice to see father draft son.

have any of you guys pondered the thought of sending Schneider to the Oilers for the supposed package they had been offering the Canucks?

Kujawanski doesn't sound half bad. Really turned around it seems when he was traded and coached by Gilmour. Who Lou said gave him rave reviews. Yeah i know he coached him but he is putting his own rep on the line.

I don't think we offered the 1st, 2nd and top prospect. That's what they wanted.

If I was NJ I wouldn't do the deal anyway though. Have your goalie be happy and move along.

well, Lou has said already said Marty is still the #1 goalie and there is no guarantee Marty will retire after next year anyway.

Schneider will be a UFA by the time is supposed to be "his team".

I actually question this deal from a Devils perspective. Only because Schneider is so close to UFA status.

I think will be okay. If he only had a year i would question it too. But we have two years and we tend to convince people that its good here when we acquire them. Can't say the same for all draft picks though.

I know I am in the minority with the thinking the Schneider acquisition was a bad move by the Devils, but I think when you have an opportunity to draft a game breaking talent at Nichuskin, who falls into your laps, you take it. Schneider is a 27 year old goaltender who is going to be a UFA in 2 years. As such, if you don't re-sign him, that trade will be a disaster, something which I am sure that Schneider's agent will be fully aware of. So, the player will have all of the leverage in the contract negotiations, because the GM doesn't want to have egg on his face by allowing a player acquired for a Top 10 pick to walk out the door only two years after the pick was traded.

This is all putting aside whether Schneider is even worth the pick from a play perspective. I know most people think he is, but I'm not sure about that. Definetely and interesting move by the Devils, which could either work out or really blowup in their faces.

"At the World Under-18 Championship, Santini was on the ice for just two goals against the entire tournament, and only one of those was at even strength. Despite not registering a single point, he was named the tournament’s best defenseman, which almost always goes to players that produce points. That’s how noticeable his defense was. He shut down players like Valeri Nichushkin and Connor McDavid, while playing huge minutes. It was one of the best performances I’d seen in five years at the tournament."

I love hearing this

Is that not every trade though? Schneider is the consensus pick as one of the best goalies in his age group. Absolutely worth it, no more well what happens after marty? We just have to show Schneider how we work as an organization which is first class. He has two buddy's already on the team is from the east coast and can't exactly sign with his hometown team if he wants to be a starter. I'd say odds of resigning him are pretty good.

I questioned it at first too b/c of the UFA status in 2 years. Then I realized most teams won't be looking for a starter and that will increase his chance of resigning. Obviously he would get a ton of interest but it is different when a star goalie is available than a star forward or defenseman just because the number of suitors is far less.
