Everybody was saying at the beginning of the draft that they would be ok with Calgary if they made two good picks and one off the board. While I don't think they should have passed on Shinkaruk, Poirier is supposed to be one of the fastest players in the draft and still put up 70 points in 62 games. The nailed it with Monahan and there is nothing wrong with picking up hometown boy Kilmchuk. All and all I think feaster did a good job.

Yes but when you have three first rounders I feel like you have some leniency when it comes to making an off the board pick. Calgary got three really good players no matter how you look at it. Time will tell how well they did.

Ouch. RT ‏@SWhyno #Canucks pick Hunter Shinkaruk: "To go to a team that's not on a downward slope is something that's a huge honour."

So he houldn't have wanted to play here anyways lol. Did anyone else notice that Barkov didn't seem too happy about going to Florida? He said some like "It's great to be drafted high but Florida i don't know..."

Not on a downward slope? they had to trade their most promising goalie, they fired their coach, they are entertaining trading one of their best defencemen and their best players can't play playoff hockey and they went from game 7 of the finals to being first round knock outs.... If that's not a downward slope I'm not sure what is...

It's fun how people are all up in arms over Feaster drafting one player over another who they probably haven't seen play 4 games combined.

If they didn't like something they saw in Shinkaruk why draft him? He's not a can't miss prospect. If everyone should just be following the TSN draft board why even bother having the draft?

They liked Poirier, he had a ton of skill and speed, why not draft him if you think there's a chance he wont fall to 28th why not draft him. The draft rankings really don't me anything if you're not looking at a player ready to play in the NHL last year. Look at TSN's draft rankings for the last 10 years and you'll see how inaccurate they usually are.

So you're sure neither of them will play in the NHL? I'd love to here your detailed scouting report on both of them.

Wasn't trying to start anything. Just saying if I was a fan, Id be pissed. remember, Oilers fans watched Sather go off board to take Steve Kelly when Shane Doan was still available.

If you're fickle for not supporting every move a team makes, what is the value of supporting your team?

Like everybody else I was pissed at first, but poirer isn't completely off the board. It's not like he was supposed to be mid to late second. If we didn't pick him he was gunna go late first top 5 of the second. Not saying it may have been a mistake not picking Shinkaruk, but in the end we could have done worse, he was still expected to go first round[/img]

There's a big difference between blindly supporting every move and getting pissed because your team didn't draft who TSN told them to. It's ridiculous for anyone to complain about a team's draft picks the same day the draft happens.

Then to top it off he brings up one example that happened nearly 20 years ago.

Fair enough. But the issue isn't that they didn't draft according to Bob MacKenzie. The issue is that they drafted a guy that wasn't even close to that, for the 2nd year in a row, that they KNEW they could have had a half a round later, and then told the press that he was top 10 on your board.

It's unconventional for sure, and if drafting is the process of getting the players you want, that's fine. But I think drafting is the process of getting the players you want at the best pick value. It's pretty clear that Feaster didn't really do that with the 22nd.

If you care to dig, look at Oilers fans reactions to Moroz being drafted in the early 2nd last year. That's a player they knew very well, and even liked, just not at that position.

You know what? Forget I said anything. Feaster is the best. Those off the board moves will likely unearth hidden superstars.

Flames did a decent job. The fact is we don't know which of these players will pan out, and Shinkaruk's fell with a number of teams probably for a reason, not just the Flames.

Poirier was rated high by some scouts, and he's fast. Rumour has it the Habs were interested in him that round. We'll see how it pans out.

I liked shinkaruk, but actually I wish they took hartman in the first instead with one of those picks.

Kanzig seems high for a goon, But anything after 2nd is a shot in the dark and playing in abbortsford first. And they do need size.

Gilmour I think was just a pick made since they see gillies/Janko play a lot.Small for a D, so I don't expect much from him.

Harrison I'm curious to hear more about. sounds like another 5 yr project.

I like the canucks and buffaloes picks. Feel sorry for luongo though.

I don't get 2 LW in the first round, unless Feaster drafted by their list of 'best available' which it sounds like, to their list, they did.
My main concern is why they drafted TWO LW's in the first rd??????
Cammalleri (trade bait)
Hudler (trade bait?)
Glencross (trade bait?)
Baertschi
Gaudreau
Hanowski
Poirier
Klimchuk
Bouma

The RW is mighty weak. At 6, position or no, I take Nich at RW. Oh well, Monoham is good for a #2 C for a long time and potential future C. His ceiling seems to be Marleau, not a bad thing by any means. I still see Backs or Jankowski being the future #1 though.

The D and G were not focused on much. So be it. This team will at least be entertaining to watch for once. Cundari and Ramo, time to step up.
