The only viable reason I can find for this pick is the amazing chemistry between him and mcdavid at the under 18's or whatever recent tournament he played in. This sounds like prep for 1st overall 2015

Klimchuk is a real good pick. BUT passing on Shinkaruk was brutal. Could you imagine getting Monahan, Shinkaruk, and Klimchuk in one freaking round?That would of been a dream come true

I think generally each team has a list from top to bottom. Flames probably didn't know if they would be able to move up until the draft actually started so they should have had a complete list. I think I remember Wisebrod saying that this is how the Flames go about their draft. A complete list of all the players ranked according to the Flames scouts opinions.

The only thing I can think of is they thought Montreal was going to take him at 25 and really wanted him, that's the only thing that makes sense to me or why not trade down for a 2nd +
I looked him up because I never really heard of him and the kid is fast and moved up on a couple draft lists but I'm still not sold he wouldn't be there later on.
