I don't think it will take Strome 4 years to produce. He already has some good development going on. I expect him to produce as soon as he is brought up. - mighty13duck
he will produce but he won't be in his peak until he has 4 years of experience. he will certainly produce but in inconsistent bunches most likely like every other rookie. |

Correct if I'm wrong but you can't sign a player to an extension till he is officially in his final year.
Which means July 5th this year.

I can see PK getting 6.5-7 million with a full NM/NTC. I think Bergevin is going to try and sell the franchise players on being affordable, but well paid, to stay competitive. The 6.5-7 million range ensures you can keep elite core players and add FA's and/or retain home grown talent.
I think PK would be on board with this because of his last contract. Trust me though. When PK signs it will be 8years and the biggest contract in Canadiens history. I bet that Bergevin is telling guys that he will try to bring in a scorer and a D, maybe move some other guys, then he can negotiate the next big deal for PK.
I could be way off base, but I think that's the mentality that guys will either accept or move on for more money.
As for letang, I thought he would be a 6-6.5 mill guy but anything over that is a over payment and exact opposite of hometown discount. Pitts is in a tough spot because its either negotiate a deal now or try when he is close to FA time when he might say "I'm just going to see what I'm worth" and them someone blows him away with a offer. So Pitts has to over pay now or wait and run a bunch of risks like injury, even better play, Letang wanting to take part in FA frenzy. It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario. Before the PK comparison remember that he is still a restricted FA after this season.
Seems like iggy has become a after thought after the playoffs he had eh? Think iggys hit the wall or was he just used improperly? I think I'm most curious to see how over paid guys like Clarkson, Clowe, and Horton will be. |

Boyes is gone but I would take Nino Strome over Kredier everyday of the week. I would take Moulson over any of your forwards minus Callahan. And JT is far and away the best forward in NY - mighty13duck
Breathe guy. Islanders made great strides. Let the Islanders prove consistency before you puff out your chest. They barely made the playoffs in a 48 game season and Boston easily showed that Pittsburgh is a terribly flawed team as constructed. Had they played a team that was tighter defensively it would have been a quick exit for the Isles. Glad to see the team better though. |

Not saying I'm a fan of the deal but everyone should keep in mind that cap hits are about to skyrocket now that the NHL has completely banned cheat contracts. Going to reconstitute what is considered a fair deal. |
