penguins are in a tough spot but the cap will still be $3-5 mil higher next offseason i think. doesn't help them out too much but it can be done.

shero's logic is that you can put anyone on crosby or malkin's lines and they'll become 20 goal scorers. so you pay those 2 crazy money and put a rookie or kid like bennett or an average FA making $3 mil or less and they'll produce.

still gonna be really, really tough to get a decent blueline though.

The reason the offers were underwhelming, Letang will not put up numbers like he did in Pittsburgh, elsewhere.

He's worth more to Pittsburgh than he is another team. He knew this and Pittsburgh finally realized it by overpaying.

Debatable. Isles don't even spend the cap max, and they gave the Pens a run for their money. I hate them as much as I hate the Rangers, but I like to give credit where it is due.

They still have to ice a team a year from now. It's not about if they will be ok with the cap halfway through the deal, it's about how difficult life is going to be for them a year from now, when the cap is only 6mil higher, and they have to sign 14 guys for like 24mil.

On Pittsburgh he will get much more points playing with Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz and Neal than he would on any other team, so it made sense to overpay him.

Thats actually funny. Did you see the isles take the pens to 6 games? The Rags beat the Capitals, who looked terrible in 7 and the only reason they won was because of Hank.
