So a statement that hypothetically looks into the future 2 years from now says it all? I highly doubt the cap will be that plus players currently on the roster will have their contracts expire by now. That statement means nothing. - acdc1206
Assuming the cap will go up and not down is also a hypothetical situation. That statement from Capgeek could have grossly understated the cap issue. That statement could mean everything.

the cap will go up A LOT. we're talking like 3-5 mil every season if the league's estimations on annual growth, 5% (which is actually conservative), are accurate. |

Pivotal day for all franchises, I feel like the trades that will occur today mixed with how deep this draft is will structure teams for the foreseeable future. People will think back to this draft class like in 2003 |

Wow! He is simply not worth that money. This statement from capgeek says it all:
CapGeek @capgeek 3m
If the cap were $64.3M in 2014-15 -- and it will likely go up -- it would only leave the #Penguins with $1.17M per remaining roster spot. - WayneZ
Except he is getting $3.5 next year. |

And his cap hit goes up in 14-15, which is the year being talked about. |

why would the Pens overpay. Would any team on the open market would have given him 7mil a year? |

Dodged the Letang bullet only to get hit with the Clarkson bullet. I bet you guys pay north of 5 million per season for Clarky. |

Cap only has one year of growth before the year, 14-15, that most are talking about the Penguins being in trouble trying to sign people for. |

Yes. If Flyers would give Streit 5mil per year, they would have given Letang over 7. |

penguins are in a tough spot but the cap will still be $3-5 mil higher next offseason i think. doesn't help them out too much but it can be done.
shero's logic is that you can put anyone on crosby or malkin's lines and they'll become 20 goal scorers. so you pay those 2 crazy money and put a rookie or kid like bennett or an average FA making $3 mil or less and they'll produce.
still gonna be really, really tough to get a decent blueline though. |

Exactly. The alternative is the Lou Lamoriello mentality. He refuses to pay the big money and we watch every UFA leave, each off-season. |

No, probably not.
They really had no other options and must really like the guy. |

Apparently the cap does not apply to the Kings? Iginla and Clowe while only having $7 mill left in cap room and Clifford, Lewis, Nolan, Martinez, Muzzin, & Ellerby left to sign. |
