McBain and Gardiner are similar players, so I think that keeps Liles on the Bottom pairing, and 2nd Specialties tandems. Which is fine with me, He'll improve as the year goes on with a full season and training camp.

personally, i'd rather stay at #21, keep Phaneuf and Gardiner and get rid of Liles. He is (in my opinion) the second coming of Kaberle after the hit by Janssens.

if the Leafs are going to gamble and go after a high pick, shoot for the moon and pursue the McDavid pick... target Calgary, Florida, Nashville.. teams that would seem to be heading nowhere quickly.

I like Dion more than most. He gets a bad rap because of his contract.
If Rutherford covets Phaneuf, it can happen.
As far a Toronto replacing him, I don't think it's as urgent as you obviously think.
Leafs are still developing, get a great young player and keep moving.
They get goaltending and they will make the playoffs again next year.
