Leafs Blueprint with projected salaries to restricted free agents

Forwards

JVR (4.25) Kadri (3.75) Kessel (5.4)

Lupul (5.25) Grabovski (5.5) Clarkson (5.25)

McClement (1.5) Bolland (3.375) Kulemin (2.8)

McLaren (0.7) Coborne(0.85) Orr (0.925)

Free agent pick to add depth/,Marlie (0.8)

Defensemen

Gunnarsson (1.75) Phaneuf (6.5)

Gardiner (1.2) Franson (4.0)

Fraser (0.9) Holzer (0.79)

Free agent pickup/Marlie?

Komsarek and Liles bought out - Brings back 7.5m in capspace

Bernier (2.25)

Reimer (1.8)

Armstrong,Tucker buyouts + retained salary = 2.5m

Capspace - 3.4m

- t_leafs21

Gunnerson's our top pairing defenseman yet again, but he's only making 1.75M? He'll be closer to 3, it's his second RFA contract.

Colborne plays in the Marlies again next year or forces someone out at center; I don't see him centering the 4th line, that'll be McClement's.

Now with Bolland in the mix, I don't think we can afford to make two big UFA splashes this year, so either a winger or Vinny. My guess is that we're not in the running for Vinny, so Nonis shored up center and is prepared to go into next season with a roster pretty close to this.

Oh don't get me wrong.. I'd love him on the leafs.. But if the leafs do sign him, I'm not going to expect anything more than point production really.

Right now, I'll take it!!!

And that's 0.8 ppg in a diminished role. Throw him between Kessel andJvR/Lupes and watch what happens
- lumlums

That is .8ppg playing on a power play with the 2 leading scorers in the nhl where he scored half of his goals.... He was also the 37th in scoring among centres... I would say that make him a 2nd line center....

Liles is alright but we may need that 3.875 for better use.

What do you expect to get Clarkson for? Won't be less than 4.5

- t_leafs21

Yeah 4.5 sounds about right

Gotta replace Frattin and Mac.

Still a few years away from re-inforcements are ready from the AHL, as Leivo and Biggs aren't quite there yet.

Maybe D'amigo can get a shot at the third line but I can see Nonis making a pitch for the likes of Clarkson

Mcclement spent much of the season playing wing with Grabovski on an attempted shut down line...... I am sure he will play with Bolland unless we bring in another shut-down type player..... give the 4th line to the kids and goons depending on need... they do not play much anyway....

What constitutes a #1 centre to you?

Lecavalier was over 0.8ppg this last season.

That's well within #1 centre production if you ask me

- Dozzer

Dozz is right as usual... Vinny is wasted in Tampa he needs a real hockey market.. with 20 k people in the streets cheering him every playoff night.. if he came to Toronto it would be the smartest decision he ever made.

Now the question is... is he smart enough...

No, that's what I'm saying: either a Vinny OR a Clarkson/Horton/Clowe, but not both.

Don't have the room once our RFAs are resigned and a couple are up for big raises (Kadri, Franson, Bernier).

Pretty sure Clarkson is our priority. He adds needed sandpaper and would fit perfectly on the 2nd line with Lupul and kadri/Grabovski

Yeah, we may have to go to the farm. That's what a lot of cap-strapped teams will be forced to do. Maybe Carter Ashton? Maybe McKegg or Ross?

I'm also intrigued with what the plan with Petter Granberg is. He just won a gold medal in the worlds as a top 4 d-man with Sweden. I think he could be a darkhorse for a job next season. And then of course, there's Morgan Rielly. He's gonna come into camp in peak shape after the world junior camp and rookie tournament

I think with Carlyle, there's always going to be line changes and match-ups, guaranteed. But McClement should be centering the 4th line over a Colborne; I don't see playing 3-4 minutes a game as being conducive to Colborne's development. Another year centering the top line with the Marlies is a smarter move.

Kessel is younger and still learning.

Lecavalier is what he is. At 33 you won't see much change in his style of play.

- Dozzer

I disagree with you Dozz on this one...LeCav needs a Toronto market to keep him on his toes.. he was absolutely looking for the door in Tampa.. thinking where he was going to eat dinner.. and relax later.. he is a competitive guy.. a market like Toronto will do wonders for him..

Clarkson would really fit well into our top 6. I'm excited for McClement-Bolland-Kulemin as a shut down line. That line is almost to defensively responsible

Gunnarsson had 1g, 15 points. So like 2,3 goals and low 30's in points over a full season. I still think he takes advantage of his playing time and I still look at him as more of a depth d-man pushed into a higher role. I think we'll go to arbitration or trade him before he give him near 3

Rielly will be back in junior. He isn't ready... 3 points in 14 games at the pro level last season.

Send him back to junior, let him dominate there, play in the WJC and hopefully get moved to a playoff contender to get some post season seasoning

Granberg will play for the marlies, same with Percy, Biggs, Leivo and the others. Rielly, well, he might be ready, but another year of juniors would be the best option. Like Nonis said, we have the depth now, that we don't need to rush players into spots. Let Rielly go back, play at the World Juniors (possibly be the captain, unless somehow MacKinnon doesn't make Colorado) and allow him to play top minutes there. He needs to develop his defensive side, and it's best to let him develop it in the juniors then throw him to the wolves in the NHL.

McClement will center the fourth line.. and fill in in other areas as injuries permit...

it is great to have two hard working players like McClement & Bolland.. grabo this year is sink or swim.. I like him.. he is gritty.. but no excuses this year.. I appreciate he had a passing in the family.. injuries, and not the right line mates... I thought he still gave a half decent effort.. but this is a big year for his career.. either he moves up.. or gets traded or bought out...

I agree! When I was typing the depth chart I was practically smiling lol

Carlyle plays a top 6 heavy, bottom 6 defense system. That 3rd line will be gritty and annoying to play against. May not light the lamp but we have plenty of guys up top that can take care of that

The amount of interest Lecavlier is generated is starting to scare me a bit. Yeah he's good but he hasn't been the same player the last few years. If we can bring him in though I'm game, I just don't know if he's going to be the guy we all are hoping for. Is he still hungry enough?

If we do bring him in Grabo has to go to.

NEWARK, N.J.—Leafs GM Dave Nonis said he was prepared to move up in the first round or move out of it for the right price. But he thought Frederik Gauthier and another player, believed to be Anthony Mantha, would be around at No. 21 and decided to stay put. Mantha went 20th to Detroit. If body language means anything, Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin was visibly upset, scratching Gauthier’s name off his list after the Leafs took him. Montreal picked American forward Michael McCarron four spots later.

I actually think if they get clarkson he will play with kessel and kadri... Clacksons production is high when hes used on the first line. He can open up space for the smaller kadri and kessel and with both of them being quite skilled playmakers clarkson can tap in his 30 goals... JVR had chemistry with grab before lupus got hurt and he had to move up... I think they keep him there with lupul to see how that pans out

Also i dont think you bring up colborne to play 4th line minutes... could try and sign someone like boyd gordon to do taht or also in an interview yesterday nonis said they were close on a few trades for someone who plays komorovs role... could potentially be bringing in someone to play 3rd line wing with mcclement staying on the 4th + PK

I can see them shutting down most any line. And each guy is underrated offensively in my opinion. Or they aren't reaching their offensive potential, which is good because we won't be counting on them to but if they do then good.

I don't mind losing MacA but Kamorov, Bozak and Frattin are all good defensively. Bolland replaces one of them, but we still need at least 2 more players if we want to enjoy the depth we had last season. Once again Clarkson would be ideal, I'm also hoping for Gordon.
