I read somewhere else that we have given Vinny the biggest offer at 6M for 3 years. Someone said it in another blog. Anyone else hear of it? |

kadri and Kessel played 2 games together in the playoffs after Bozak was hurt.....
In game 6 Kessel scored assisted by kadri and they were both a plus 2
In game 7 they each scored a goal and assisted on each others goal Kadri was a plus 2 and Kessel a plus 1
So in two games, under extreme pressure from the second best team in the league they combined for 6 points and a plus 7.
I would say I am fine with Kadri getting a chance to play with Kessel.....
First 5 games of the year Grabovski 3 g 3 a played with JVR 3 g 1 a...... then Lups got hurt JVR moved lines and Grabo was put in a checking role and got seriously ill.....
Again I would like to give them a chance as a second line.... especially with a guy like Clarkson on their wing......
One may argue too small of a sample, but how do you get a big sample without trying? |

So what's everyone thinking right now?
I think Nonis did a decent job yesterday, and over the last few weeks.
Bolland and Bernier added to the roster.
Gauthier is another big centre that with time will work out.
So bye bye Bozak. Too bad that I couldn't say the same for Grabs, as I really don't think it'll work out for him here, but I guess one more year to prove his worth before buying him out is ok.
Does anyone here think Colborne will be on the team next year? Is there room at centre for him? - AngryWhiteMale
I like Bolland.. he is a winner and highly competitive.. and as Nonis said he scored major points in Jr.. the fact he played behind great players for years probably hampered him. But he is a winner.. as competitive as they come.. and has won repeatedly at every level.
This competitive streak has led him to be injury prone.. just check out his wrap sheet.. but most of them were minor injuries although he has had concussion issues. He plays hard and goes to the dirty areas, few Leafs do.. so it is an improvement. His Stanley Cup winning goal was proof of that.
I like the trade.. Bernier though I thought we gave too much for... and it was a slap in the face to Reimer.. who as I predicted made a bad team good... the goalies were never to blame in Toronto it was the defense core that allowed so many repeat grand chances.
Maybe Nonis feels bad for Gillis and his JFJ type management and wants to create his own issues... fortunately I think Reimer is a good kid.. and this will ony make him better.

That being said if we can upgrade on Grabo for the similar money or get the same for less... and without giving up significant assets then go for it.....
I personally want to see Kadri with Kessel
If it doesn't work we buy out Grabo next year and go balls out for a True #1... whatever that is.... |

I want them to trade for Burrows from Vancouver and put him on a line...
Burrows - Kadri - Kessel

Vinnie may be better than what we have, he definitely fills some voids we have "big body" leadership etc..... but he sure as heck is not a #1 centre anymore..... I want to start seriously contending for the cup in 3 years and a couple of good cheap(some of our prospects panout) playing top 4 minutes on D will allow us to spend some money on star power. Vinnie's K at 5-6 million would be an albatross by then because he will be closer to a 3rd line center |

disappointed with the gauthier selection. i get hes the "safer" pick, as most likely he will make the NHL as a 3rd line center, but there were guys still on the board with greater potential. 3rd liners can be picked up for trade (look at bolland) or via free agency (look at mcclement), so i dont get the logic to having to draft a 3rd liner. i would have been happier with erne, zykov or compher over gauthier, as all 3 have top 6 potential. we will have to wait and see what happens with gauthier.
for bolland, i am primarily ok with it, but with the guys who were still on the board in the 2nd, i would have tried to move up and pick erne, zykov or compher, but what can you do |

Bernier actually came in relatively cheap. Young, and insurance in case Reimer doesn't pan out.
There's a very good possiblity that Reimer and Bernier turn into good goalies, and we get the opportunity to flip one of them down the road for more than the sum of what we paid for Bernier.
I admit I was a big Frattin fan too, and think he'll be a good pro, but we had to give to get |

I agree Zykov intrigued me... I think Gauthier becomes a very good 2nd liner... he is a late developer... I was afraid of Erne because his production was way higher with Grigo there than without and as much as Garth overrates him he was a man amongst boys in the Q this year... |

If Nonis had the Bolland deal on the table, then knowing he wouldn't have a 2nd rounder and a 4th it was probably in his best interests to go with a safe first round choice.
Plus we need to accept the fact that the 3-4 picks before Gauthier were all guys we though would have been more ideal, and yet they just snuck out of our reach, so i can't fault Nonis there. |
