It's funny watching Nucks fans start to squirm.... finally realizing how big of a fcukup their GM is. It's also funny to see them saying thinks like "Gillis is almost as terrible as Nonis"

saw someone say this isn't gillis's fault, it's Luo's because he has a NTC and (frank)ed everything up. Who do you think gave him that NTC.

you can't write a script better than the reality. This situation was handled as poorly as could have been. Pure gold.

NEWARK, N.J.—Leafs GM Dave Nonis said he was prepared to move up in the first round or move out of it for the right price. But he thought Frederik Gauthier and another player, believed to be Anthony Mantha, would be around at No. 21 and decided to stay put. Mantha went 20th to Detroit. If body language means anything, Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin was visibly upset, scratching Gauthier’s name off his list after the Leafs took him. Montreal picked American forward Michael McCarron four spots later.

I skimmed the 'nucks thread - the elephant in the room is the fact that Luongo still has a ticking time bomb of a contract.

But Leaf fans shouldn't be too smug; why the hell did we trade for a third line center?

We already have too many of those.

I guess we have officially given up on Colborne.

Gotta feel bad for Luongo, sold his condo and packed his bags and is now back as the goalie who "isn`t good enough to take us to the cup:

I said that yesterday about Luongo. They are going to get hit with cap recapture. MacKenzie said that the executives he's talked with in the NHL believe anyone with a long term backdiving deal needs to be bought out. That's why vinny got bought out. He was talking about even the likes of Hossa and the like.

Not to mention he's alienated Luongo and he didn't sound excited to still be there.

Bolland is a 3rd liner, a true 3rd liner. It frees Grabo up to not be a shutdown guy. That's why we traded for a 3rd line Center. Also Not seeing the correlation between Colborne and Bolland.

Did you guys check out the Canucks thread after the Schneider trade? Boy, they are not happy...
- BetterCallSaul

I don't blame them. I'm sure there will be chants of "Fire Gillis" at some point in the season. Maybe the 1st home preseason game.

Good off season so far. Bernier and Bolland improve this team.

Reading some of the comments on the Nucks thread about how Schneider has anxiety issues anyway is some of the finest chocolate I've sampled
- Zezel

Looked pretty calm to me. I think Nuck fans will have anxiety issues now. What if Luongo tries to force Gillis to trade him by threatening retirement? What if Luongo gets hurt?

Still think Nonis is a worse GM

Yup, he's worse..... that's why Gillis bent him over on Luongo right?? That's why 90% of the team doesn't belong to him. Bt yeah, he's (frank)ing awesome. All he's done is sign luongo to a terrible contract and proceed to totally (frank) up the situation for a year, sign an overpriced dman and make a buch of terrible trades for dead weight.

sure thing.

Beauty day. Bolland, Gauthier and Gillis looks like a fool. Well done Mr. Nonis, well done.

Can you imagine the awkward vibe around that team for the next few years? Excellent work Mike.

Kadri, Grabbo, Bolland, McClemment, Bozak/Vinny/????.

See any room for Colborne?

So we are paying almost $4 million for a guy who goes UFA next year.

I'm not in love with this deal.

Anyone picked outside of the top 10 is a complete coin flip but if that description is accurate there's always room in the NHL for that kind of player. There's pretty much zero chance this kid is going to turn into a first liner but if you can draft someone at the 21st spot who becomes an NHL regular then you've done pretty good.
- Jeffmt

Yeah, as long as he's good defensively he'll be fine. Maybe he'll be another McClement. Who know?

"Chris Bordeleau of NHL Central Scouting has tracked the progress of countless players in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League pipeline over the past three decades.

Still, he struggles when asked to recall a forward matching the defensive acumen and awareness exhibited by 2013 draft-eligible center Frederik Gauthier of the Rimouski Oceanic.

The closest resemblance might be Philadelphia Flyers center Sean Couturier, who starred for the Drummondville Voltigeurs for three seasons. But even that's a stretch."

That's pretty high praise.

Sounds great.

Guys... I went to bed at around 3 after drinking a 12 yesterday.

Ness just got home from work and wants to start drinking because it's Canada Day and is dragging me into this endeavor.

Good idea? Bad idea?

I could see that happening. There is no way in hell Luongo can continue to play there long term.

The organization brought him to tears on national television. If they were going to go with him all along, they shouldn't have jerked him around for two years.

The first game he gets shelled and the boos start to rain down on him, he's going to pull a Patrick Roy: "I'm never playing another game in a Canucks uniform."

- Leeman4Gilmour

I can see this turning into a bigger circus than it already has been. Shyt storm in the making. Nobody could blame Luongo for being pissed off now.
