When your turn comes up, you take the guy you have rated best available. It doesn't matter who TSN, or a blogger, or a poster, have rated for that slot. You NEVER know how other teams have that player rated. If you think he's worth it, you don't take a chance trading down...unless another team makes it worth your while.

Eventually, if you don't think the person making the picks makes the right choice with enough consistency, then you replace that person. Holmgren has been pretty good in the first round. Pretty questionable after that.

Many of the people offering opinions on these kids don't even know what a good player looks like when they're in a Flyers sweater, so what you get are generally fourth-hand scouting reports. Ultimately we have to give it time, and see how things play out.
Personally, I was hoping for more skill in the first pick, but size is good too... I watched the available clips on him, and didn't think much of a conclusion could be drawn either way. There's a lot of projection involved. Obviously they believe Morin can continue to develop like he did over the last year (big kids can be gangly until they adjust to their size.) If they are right, he could turn out to be a heck of a player. If they're wrong, whoops. That's when a perceived reach really hurts your job security.
We'll see.

I am too. Shinkaruk could certainly help a lot of offensively starved teams down the road

Yea. I'm not mad that they haven't been traded. There just seemed to be quite a bit of discussion involving them prior to the draft.

I think they need to either sign Read or trade him before the season starts.
