Would have actually just preferred a forward picked
- ob18

I am mad because they always make a big deal about trading for BPA rather than for need.

Now, they drafted for need who won't even be NHL ready for 2 years!?

It is not outside the realm of possibility to say that they get a better player at #41 than they got here.

Hopefully this kid can play, because he is going to be crucified otherwise.

I'm going against the consensus. Everyone loves the pick. Holmgren being lauded all over the place. I have to bring balance.
- PLindbergh31

I'll be honest. With their draft record on D-men, to go out of the box like that?

With Pulock, Zadorov and Morrissey still on the board?

With the need for actual talent, young talent on the back end?

Has a bit of a joke written all over it.

They said the same thing about dougie hamilton and he was up in 2 years. We truly don't know anything at this point. People get so upset when they Flyers don;t develop Dmen. Well now they are going to try to.
- PhillySportsGuy

I'm not against the pick at all. He's 17 years old. Going to take time.

Not against the pick. Just think its going to be awhile before he even helps this team. I'm saying 5 years.

That's okay. Defenseman take time.

where were they trading down to for this guy. What team was offering to move up. It's dumb to assume every team wiil just say okay here, we'll move up, take what you want.

Zdeno Chara was a project Dman also.
- MJL

Exactly -- I wasn't on this board last year, but on other boards and Twitter, people were crying about Scott Laughton last year. And that kid did nothing but show that he's a player.

The Flyers know more about this stuff than I do -- I watch a few junior games, a few AHL games. But they do this stuff on a daily basis.

They think he can play. We need to develop defensemen. So, let's develop him.

"Offensively, Morin isn’t afraid to rush the puck up ice, but he doesn’t do it all that often. He can deliver a stretch pass to a breaking forward with ease. He makes very smart plays with the puck and knows where to be at the right times. He’s known more for his defensive presence, however."

doesn't sound like a strictly "stay at home" type... I think they reached a bit but it could pay off huge... that's kinda what the draft is about.

- JoeRussomanno

The Flyers are good at that (See: Giroux, Claude; Richards, Mike) but I'm concerned because of their draft history with Dmen. Hopefully Pronger being in the war room for the 1st time will break the bad streak.

I wanted Best Player Available...Morin would have been a good pick at 18 or 19, better players on board at 11.

How do you know they drafted for need, and that Morin was not who they felt was the BPA?

The exact thing that almost every person on this site clamored for..drafting a dman..

So far 12 other teams have not picked Zadorov or Pulock.

I am ok with them drafting a shutdown dman.. Short of Jones\Risto + possibly Nurse most likely none of the dmen were help this year types.

Hinkie would have morin and a 2nd rounder to boot with the 11th position. There's a difference

No that would have (frank)ing been Zadorov.

Sometimes its hard with this team. Morin? Really?

With Zadorov, Morrissey and Pulock still on the board?
