Yea I agree they are the difference makers in this draft the only guy I'm a little iffy on is the Russian lindros lol the other 4 are can't miss prospects
- griouxmvp2012

There will never be another Lindros. But I am imagining a younger, faster, and eventually bigger Brendan Shanahan.

Him on G's side for the next 10+ years is something I would take a flyer on.

Pun not intended.

Because the defense is terrible.

HA! You know, it's entirely plausible that might be the defense on opening night.

I do agree that you are risking a lot on Mesz and Grossmann coming back healthy. And ironically that is one of my chief complaints with Homer's plan last year - dependent on a lot of "ifs" working out.

But I doubt if there is an option to trade Mesz (it could end up being one of these deals where we give up a pick or player to get the team to take him), so trading Coburn is more likely.

And we need a dynamic scoring option for 2nd line. MPS has size and speed....a little like Jake when we got him...just needs confidence.

moving schenn to move up dumb
- Winning

Depends on A) what you get back, and b) who you get when you trade up. What if you got Drouin or Jones? What if you also get a 2nd pick or player?

I think it would be another season before we see one of schenn or couts moved

Valid points, but I'd rather have Coburn them Mesz. The reason being that Coburn is a good defensemen, he is. He has just been misused in the recent past because of a lack of depth on the blueline. He's a stay at home guy period. He and Gross where great as a shutdown pair two seasons ago. Mesz has a great offensive upside but he's too beat up and his cap hit to too big for what he brings, or dosent bring because he's always hurt.

The main reason I had Schenn moving in that plan was, with Vinnie, you need to drop a player. Obviously they could drop Read. But a lot of what was in that proposal are things that they seem to be considering, including moving up.

I personally am ok with this and trading Read for pick too, or keeping him and not signing Gags:

Hartnell - G - Vorachek
Paajarvi - Leclavier - Schenn
Gagne/Read - Couturier - Simmonds

Most likely:

Hartnell - G - Vorachek
Paajarvi - Schenn - Simmonds
Gagne - Couturier - Read

A 2nd line with Vinnie / MPS though would be much more dynamic

If they are thinking of moving one of them at all, now would be the time before one of them either gets injured or underperforms. I still think Couturier would be the one to go because he still has more upside despite his sophomore slump.

more upside and therefore higher return.

I completely agree. I personally would keep Coburn too, because if they trade him they have 2 spots to fill next year. They would really HAVE to get a dman this draft.

But Homer has backed himself into a corner with Streit it seems. He always makes moves that put him in a weak position cap wise, and then has to trade someone he doesn't want to. Coburn might be this year's Upshall/Gagne.

Vinny is not coming here(as much as I would love to see him here for the right price). If Coburn gets us the number 5, get it done though. Only person coots get traded for is Webber. Although if coots gets us into the top 3 I would make it happen. rather have Schenn then coots long term.

Always wanted him in o and b. just needs to be a two or three year deal. Don't shed cap space and sign him for one year only for him to return to Tampa after this season.

The only way Coburn and 5 are going to be used in the same sentence is if you are talking about jersey number

So Coburn has showed so much consistency in his tenure that he is irreplaceable? I would rather see how the blueline shakes out to make final conclusions. Btw, Scottie Upshall has done what in his career?

Agreed. However all the reports/blogs were carolina was willing to swap #5 for a top 4 dman. iF this were true, it would have to get done.

Yeah, agreed! Think he ends up in Montreal maybe. I'd have Gags talking to him though

I really would like a 2nd line that can take pressure off of G. Having him anchoring that 2nd line would give you 2 explosive lines, and really 3 strong lines over all.
