Today's the day!

What I'd like to see happen today, all things being equal:

If they stay at 11: Rasmus Ristolainen

If they get to 5: Jonathan Drouin (He's there, if Tampa goes for Valeri Nichuskin)

If they obtain Edmonton's #37: Justin Bailey

So, this Coburn deal, is this for JUST a 2nd, or is it a second + Paajarvi? Depending upon other moves, I'd be ok with it if you get a player who, if he can put it together, could really add scoring for a low cap hit next year. Depends on other moves tho.

It was so hard to tell yesterday -- the various tweets indicated the Flyers wanted a bit more than Paajarvi in the deal for at least one of Edmonton's seconds, if not both.

I'd trade Bill for the 5th overall. That's a good hockey trade.

EDIT: maybe EDM is more interested in a 7th overall and J.Schultz for Bill and Coburn swap. Plus, Cloutier is a goof.

- GirouxForTheShow

If Bill is in the trade, there better be more than just the 7th overall and Schultz coming back.

Eberle needs to be part of the deal.

Huh. For whatever reason, I just don't see Nashville passing on Barkov, if the choice is between Drouin and him.

You could be right I don't see how you could pass up drouin his skill level is off the charts. Plus they got foresberg from Washington some how (thAt was a dumb move on washingtons part) I think he's a center not sure tho. But if that did happen and we were 5th overall I would be extemly happy

With the market for defenseman what it is, his experience, and his 3 years left on his contract, we better get both seconds. It's entirely possible there is some sort of bidding war for Coburn.

And if I were him I would have no problem going to Edmonton. I hear it is an amazing hockey town and that collection of talent with Yakupov, RNH, and Taylor Hall is among the best in the league IMO.

Anyone see a similarity between the former/future housing/credit bubble and the market for defenseman?

I have zero problem trading up to get ANY of the top 5 - Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, or Nicuhuskin.

What do you think about that as the deal? And as an aside, when did he drop the S in MPS?

Here is a plan that would be intriguing:

1. Sign Vinnie. The plan would ideally have him as 2nd.
2. Trade Coburn for MPS/2nd.
3. Trade lowest 2nd or lower for Halak.
4. Trade Schenn for 1st if you could get it, or package Schenn/11th to move up.
5. Draft 11th (Pulock/Ristolainen) OR higher (Nichuskin/Jones)
6. Resign Gagne (might not have room/need)

Lines
Hartsy - G - Vorachek
Simmonds - Vinnie - MPS/Raffl/Straka
Gagne - Couturier - Read (I like Read here for balance and defense)
Talbot - Laughton - Rinaldo/Rosehill

Schenn - Timmo
Streit - Grossmann
Gus - Mesz

Halak/Mason
