How do you know Vancouver would of taken that deal. Most players taken in the first round are projects. How do you know who they took in the 3rd round is a 6th round talent? Have you seen the player actually play?

was he the BPA in the third? No.

True, but the FA pool is crap. Nothing but old dudes, backups, and guys one post-to-post move away from injury.

Imho, of course.

They could also make a trade. I have no real issue with giving Mason a year to see if he can do the job. They don't need to get the long term answer right now, and I don;t want to see them bring in a Ryan Miller.

I'd still like to see them take a look at Jaroslav Halak. Jonas Hiller is supposedly being shopped, but he was very inconsistent last year.

We haven't even hit free agency yet, it's not etched in stone that Mason will be the guy next year.
- Jsaquella

I am pretty nervous about the goalie situation.
Still time to fix it, but with Bernier, and the Van goalies out of play choices are narrowing.

Do they give up assests for Halak who is coming off groin injuries or roll the dice with Mason and Emery? Emery will get a raise too.
Maybe inquire about one of the Anaheim guys? That won't be cheap either.
Lots of questions still.

I think we will. Did you see the size of that (frank)er.. My brother in law thought he was a current player greeting the draft pick.

What I'm wondering about this morning is Coburn's time as a Flyer over?
After all the trade rumors can they bring him back next season or are they set on moving him?

I'm glad they didn't trade him for a couple of 2nd round picks and would welcome him back in his proper role.

I think they still want to clear cap space to pick up a free agent forward.
My nightmare right now is they trade him for less then value and use his dollars on Ryan Clough or something like that.

- Marc D

Ek still seems to think he will def get moved

Carolina GM has stated sekera will be in their top 4

The Edmonton deal fell through

Who are their options now?

True, but also a lot of options.

I'd be OK with a stopgap and Mason to start the year, and if need be maybe swing an in season trade.

People seem to want a long term fix, and I just don't think there's one to be had right now.

In whose opinion? What matters is who the Flyers felt was the best player available. The Flyers aren't going by the media and draft pundits consensus.

They do. A guy like Gibson would be nice to land.

What is stopgap, I mean, Boucher up to these days?

Team' rankings look waayyy different than the published ones... look no further than Feaster claiming he was able to nab 3 of the Flames' top-13 ranked prospects in that 1st-round.

A majority of those high-flying, ultra-skilled players taken in that 3rd-round might never make the show... if the Flyers' scouts feel Goulbourne has as good of a shot at making it as more skilled guys, then that explains the pick from their perspective.

Stopgap to me, is a guy that can play 40-50 games and be around for a year or two.

If you mean consecutive years, then I guess Boucher is out of the equation.

That's very likely the case. In the way of thinking the Flyers employed, getting a NHL 4th liner is better than getting an AHL all star.

Me? I'd rather roll the dice on a guy like Lodge or Kurjawiski

Not with Bernier and Schneider off the table.

That's what makes me nervous.

I see your point.
Trying for the long term fix didn't work out very well with Bryz.

I guess people get tired of hearing the whole Flyers and their lack of a real goalie since Hextall saga.

I'm ok too giving Mason a real shot.
I love the way he moves and handles the puck.

I wonder if Emery would take a one deal.
I'd be hesitant about a multiyear deal given his hip issues.

We talking goalies? Cuz if he's only playing 40 games over 2 years, that's more like a doorstop than a stopgap...

At this point, Boucher is a back-up, at best.

To me, they need to get a guy that can split time with Mason and be counted on to start if he falters. I doubt they land a top tier starting goalie, or even an unquestionable number one guy.

Nope, capable of starting 40-50 games each year over two.

I think if they know vinny will sign then they will trade coburn and maybe try to dump mez as well
- griouxmvp2012

I don't get this. You're willing to deplete the defense in order to sign your 2nd-line center?

What does your blue-line look like after you've gotten rid of Coburn+Meszy and added Vinny?

hes a scrapper that cant score in the whl....i dont see how that is going to translate into the NHL.... hopefully the flyers know more than i do, but their track record outside of the first two rounds has been poop.

I'm happy with Morin at 11. I was hoping for a big guy, either Morin or Zadorov. I've been trying to dig to find the basic differences between the who which led the Flyers to ultimately choose Morin over Zadorov (I would have the same curiosities if they chose Zadorov).

What are your opinions on this?

He's got quite a "lax bro" name.

Does anyone know how the USHL stacks up, competition wise, with Division 1 NCAA hockey in the States and the CHL?
