I don't think it was a Snider move. Snider's more of a Get Me A Veteran ____ to fill an immediate need. He's not a a guy that would be demanding a giant sized project defenseman that's a couple/few years off. If anything he would have been screaming for Ristolainen, who can probably step in sooner and make an impact faster.

I would have preferred Pulock, Zadorov or a couple of the other names on the board. But they locked in to Morin after Ristolainen and Nichushkin were gone and nabbed him.

I enjoyed the brief few minutes where I imagined the Flyers actually drafting a Russian player in the first round.

I want to know if our 3rd round pick is a projected PK guy. If so, then it's not a bad pick.
- PhillySportsGuy

Goulbourne was a poor value pick. They could have had him a few rounds later, in all probability.

I really liked Jimmy Lodge, Jordan Subban or Ryan Kujawinski at that spot.

I watched a little of him last night and he seems to be a very good skater for a guy his size.
- Stinkfitz

The mobility has me excited for him. He's not a great skater, but he gets to where he needs to be.

A couple of guys in the main blog who are boned up on junior hockey, (sens and habs fan) seem to really like the Morin pick and were impressed with Holmer selecting him.

He was my first choice for Ottawa was impressed Holmgren grabbed him at 11. Kid will be a star (perhaps a bust). With the really big kids you won't know how good he is until he plays against men. But, most important, he is a very good skater and has good hands.

People make the mistake of thinking Chara is a great D man just because he is so big. Chara is a good skater and he has good hand eye coordination (the secret to soft hands is hand eye coordination). Anyway Morin seems to display some if the same attributes.

I think the Flyers may have picked one of the best stay-at-home defenseman of the draft. He'll fit right in. Another great pick for sure.

I guess they weren't willing to "risk" it being without a 4th round pick

That was frustrating, as well -- I absolutely don't mind a guy like Zac Rinaldo later in the draft, because you know one or two of those guys, over the course of time, is going to will themselves into the NHL and turn into an asset. You start talking fifth, sixth, seventh round, the odds of those guys making it is so slim, then finding someone with pure heart isn't the worst thing.

But you don't have to do that in the third round. I wish they hadn't.

The first name I thought of was Garrett Klotz.

He's not that limited, and he's also another guy that seemed to improve over the season as it progressed, so it's not like they took a guy that nobody else was going to draft, just think he was a guy that was a 6th or 7th rounder.

After seeing some of the footage of Morin, I'm interested to see how he develops. I wonder exactly how much input Pronger had.

The draft's in Philadelphia next year!

Can't the owner of the team...see what one is like before his franchise hosts one?

Good Lord! The hatred Ed Snider gets is irrational!

- AllInForFlyers

Typical flyers fan none sense....lets hate at a owner that does everything in his power to win...including forking out boatloads of his own cash... (frank)ing pathetic.

Not for morons that can't see any positivity in the team and ignore the success that they have had over the past ten years.

That right there is my biggest problem with the pick. I think the ONLY reason the Flyers drafted him is because they think his offensive game will develop. Thats an opinion, but one I truly believe to be the case.

You dont draft a defensive d-man in a stacked draft early in the first round, unless the hype of his defensive game is that astounding. They are hoping that Morin continues to develop, and with his size, will dominate (ala Pronger and Chara). Thats a big WHAT IF!

- jak521

I don't get that feeling. I don't think that's their perspective at all. I don't think they feel he will develop an offensive game to rival Pronger. Look at his Junior numbers. It's very rare for a defenseman with those offensive numbers, to translate to an offensive point producer in the NHL. I think they see him as a player who could become a dominant defensive defenseman, who can handle the puck and make a good outlet pass. As well as how well he skates for a player of his size. And if you think that is his upside, you absolutely draft a player like that, if you think he's going to be a better player then what else is on the board.
I don't think they have any thoughts that he will develop into another Chris Pronger level player. Look at Pronger's offensive numbers at the Junior level.

Can we hope he leans more toward Pronger

When Davis got into his old age, his teams sucked. The Flyers have generally been a second tier contender, at worst, during Snider's 70's and into his 80's.

my biggest issue yesterday is that they did not stick w/ their BPA formula for the 3rd pick...that's unanimous among anybody who follows the draft. other than that, i'm just hopeful that we don't regret passing on pulock.
- isaiah520

How do you know that. Because he wasn't deemed the BPA by other who follow the draft, doesn't mean he wasn't who the Flyers felt was the best BPA. They go by their list, not those who follow the draft.

yeah i know but the third round pick ..... Homer could have taken a player that at least has a higher probability of making it to the nhl.
- PhillaBully

James Lodge would have been a nice pick at 72.
