I, personally, didn't like the pick because I didn't see him that high is most mocks. However, I wanted the Flyers to trade up for Koekkoek last year, but instead "reached" on Laughton. Well, right now Laughton is rated as the 12th best player from the 2012 draft and Koekkoek isn't even in the top 30.

I am willing to trust the Flyers on this one and see how things play out. They seem to be pretty good at finding guys in the QMJHL

- PhillySportsGuy

The Flyers history of finding good players in round one was also a factor that helped sway me. Say what you want about later rounds, but in the first round they usually do a great job.

I'd love to blame his ownership, but Gillis foolishly handled the situation, allowed it to fester and then painted himself into a corner. To me, it was a no brainer to move Luongo at the deadline.

I think that they can repair the situation with Luongo, though. He's a good guy and gets what happened.

Oh, I agree with you.

I guess I try to give these guys the benefit of the doubt when situations look as bad as that one does.

The biggest concern I have (to be completely honest), is that I am afraid this was a Snider move. WHEN have the Flyers drafted a project d-man with their first round pick? This coming a week after Snider makes the comment about never having drafted and developed a d-man? Idk.. I hope this wasnt another case of doing what Al Davis Ed Snider says he wants done.

I did some of the same stuff. Watched a ton of videos, read just about every scouting report and mock draft (most had him between 17-24, although Button hit it on the button, yeah.. I know), and I feel a bit calmed down, but still would have preferred Pulock or Domi.

- jak521

was anyone else annoyed to see Snider on the podium, he sort of makes me sick

Like Kevin Marshall? (I kid I kid)...

I agree.. If there is one thing I have trouble doing, its questioning first round selection by the Flyers. Ill give it considerable time.

my biggest issue yesterday is that they did not stick w/ their BPA formula for the 3rd pick...that's unanimous among anybody who follows the draft. other than that, i'm just hopeful that we don't regret passing on pulock.

I think once Nicushkin was taken 10th, there weren't many teams looking to move up to the 11th spot.

Had Nicushkin dropped, the Flyers may have had a very strong offer.

There was zero reason for him to be there. He should have NO hockey related input.

Coburn is pretty mean for most of the time. He just has zero game in the offensive zone and doesnt outlet well.

Yup after reading up I feel better about this pick than Zadorov. Mainly because he's not russian and even though he is not on zadorov's level, he is already a more physical kid using his size and his ceiling is at least as high as zadorov's it seems.

He's done so much for the franchise and community. His willingness to do anything to win is kind of a necessary evil we just need to accept

Thats the one silver lining I have. Nothing worse than seeing a big guy play a soft game.

Ill be honest.. If Seth Jones had that same physical presence and nastiness... he would have went 1st.

I want to know if our 3rd round pick is a projected PK guy. If so, then it's not a bad pick.

He's not even the worst owner of a sports team in Philadelphia, let alone the worst owner in the NHL.

Plenty of fans would kill to have Ed be the owner of their team.

There is a reason he hired Homer right?

It is his team, but he isnt the one who should have a say on the guys they draft or trade for. Then he allows his fanaticism get in the way of business... and ends up like Al Davis.

I spent a lot of time last night digging up everything I could find on Morin. I asked CHL guys I follow on twitter what they thought of him. I watched all the videos I could, read every report.

He's definitely a project. But the thing that I kept hearing and seeing was that this kid has a really good work ethic and that he will do what it takes to get better.

The other thing is that he's got good mobility. Other mountain men, like Boris Valabik and Chris MacAllister, had really poor mobility and it limited them. Morin can move pretty well.

He's also got the ability to make a good first pass and get things started out of his own end. This area of his game will be the most important thing that he'll need to develop to a high level. A huge part of Pronger's success came because he was a fantastic outlet passer.

I do feel he was a reach, but knowing that the Habs were willing to trade up to land him gives me a bit of confidence that the rise was valid and the Flyers knew they couldn't trade down and land him.

I watched a little of him last night and he seems to be a very good skater for a guy his size.

I don't think it was a Snider move. Snider's more of a Get Me A Veteran ____ to fill an immediate need. He's not a a guy that would be demanding a giant sized project defenseman that's a couple/few years off. If anything he would have been screaming for Ristolainen, who can probably step in sooner and make an impact faster.

I would have preferred Pulock, Zadorov or a couple of the other names on the board. But they locked in to Morin after Ristolainen and Nichushkin were gone and nabbed him.

I love Ed Snider. I have met the man many times, and think he is a genuinely nice guy. His love for the Flyers is amazing. That doesnt mean I think he should be making player personnel decisions. Thats why he hired Homer.

The draft's in Philadelphia next year!

Can't the owner of the team...see what one is like before his franchise hosts one?

Good Lord! The hatred Ed Snider gets is irrational!
