I don't mind this tandem...

I will never have faith in Steve Mason, nor will anybody in Columbus. In due time, you will see what we mean.

I think we all thought that guy was the real deal after his 1st year. But man, he sure went to poopville really fast after that. Too bad. I always had a soft spot for a fellow right handed catcher.

Nabokov will be testing free agency according to twitter...not like it's a big surprise. Wonder if we'll get a blog about him going to the Flyers?

If he can remove his head from his anus, he might be good again some day. But right now, his own mind is the most detrimental aspect of his game.

Our beat writer (Aaron Portzline) tweeted earlier today that the term is not the issue, it's salary at this point. Hard to tell though. Not many comparable contracts to put him up against, but he surely won't fetch a contract like J Quick (10yr/$58 mil).

I'd guess the likely scenarios here are: 2 yrs/11 million or 4 years/20 million. I know management is probably leaning heavily towards the 2 year deal as it will serve two purposes. 1) He will still have 1 year left of RFA status. 2) You will have a better idea by then if he is the franchise goaltender. As a comparison, Marc-Andre Fleury makes $5 million a year and he won a cup.

- InJDWeTrust

They don't want to get burned twice after they committed to Mason for one good season, only to see him flounder.
2 yr/11m is fair for both. If he succeeds, he can then get a Quick contract. Whereas KHL will give him $10mm a yr, he may not THINK it is fair enough.

Can't compete will KHL money, not in the cards. He's seeking to prove he's the best in the world, and from all appearances, he enjoyed playing for Columbus. He can't do that in Russia.

However, they are dangling the starting goaltender spot in front of him for the Sochi Olympics if he signs with a Russian team. Quite possibly the only thing bigger than winning a Stanley Cup is winning a gold medal, in Russia, as a Russian.

I really don't think Thomas is going to come out of his Bunker to be a Backup to a Russian in Columbus. Call me Crazy if you want.

I don't think that Bigot should be allowed back in the NHL for using his celebrity to bash Homosexuals. He is a joke and should just retire.
- CanadaSlayer

When did he bash homosexuals? All he did was defend freedom of speech. It's not like it's a Mayor's jurisdiction to ban a business based on the political views of the company's owner anyways.

you guys made it to the SCF with carter and richards. the kings won the cup with carter and richards.

coincidence? i think not.

- rangerdanger94

Sorry are we talking about the Carter that was traded for Voracek, the guy who outscored him considerably this season, and Couturier, our most valuable trade asset and our best defensive forward? And Richards, the guy who was traded for BSchenn, or second-most valuable trade piece, and Simmonds, and awesome Bobby Ryan level power forward? From just the pieces of those 2 trades we got Voracek, Simmonds, Couturier, BSchenn, Grossmann, and Cousins. We won those trades, I don't care what carts and richie won in a different city. It's obvious we came out on top asset-wise.

Agreed...but there is some truth to it.

CBJ have (at least) talked to/expressed interest in Thomas, Kipursoff, and Bernier (pretrade). That being said, we currently only have 1 (ONE) goaltender on contract.

Now all you need to do is find a goaltender, because you guys must seriously be high if you think Steve Mason is going to help you win a Cup, let alone get you to the playoffs.

I think we need a tandem, yes. But I have hope for Mason. He posted a .944 in 8 games for the O and B last season... It's a small sample, but that added onto his attitude about coming to Philly and it gives me hope. Did you guys really believe Bobrovsky was gonna be the answer to your goaltending problems last offseason?

Your 22nd pick for the Habs 25th pick and Desharnais.
- Champ

That won't be enough. The French media have his penis in their mouth. Metaphorically.

Bob negotiations aren't going well. They've already tried to talk Kipper out of retirement and presumably are looking at the many other goalies also out there.
- S Kaspar Rollins

Really? Yhey are aware that he still has a contract with Calgary so if he did come out of retirement Columbus would still have to trade for him.

Of course not, in fact, most fans were about to get out the pitch forks and torches and burn Scott Howson's house down. He thought that bringing in somebody to push Steve Mason was going to bring Mason back around, when in fact, I think Mason actually got worse. His whole problem is his mind. He went to sports psychologists to learn how to let things go and refocus. Once Bob came in and clearly outplayed him, well, you saw what happened. He didn't sniff the ice and was traded for a 3rd rounder and a backup who we never used or intend to resign.

Perhaps a change of scenery in all he needs, but as a diehard CBJ fan, it is hard for me to sit here and try to write one good thing about Steve Mason.

His girlfriend is hot. There....I did it.

Semantics; even if they did it I doubt it would cost very much to get his rights. To be more precise, they asked Calgary for permission to talk to him. Don't think they got it

By the way, according to Pannochio, Flyers no longer talking with Calgary about the 6th pick. Price is too high, which I take as good news.

I don't see Feaster trading down after he went for the #1 overall anyways.
