It might be but there are some people that have just as much or less of a negative attitude about this team as I do, I atleast wait until I see a person on the board before I mention there name. Something that really bothers me about this site.

C'mon, it wasn't anything personal whatsoever. It's not like I said some awful thing about you behind your back.

I wonder if our team was good if there would be so many negative people and others who personally attack others on here hahaha

That question is easy to answer, you build teams around elite talent who are going 1,2,3 in this draft. While guys like Lindholm and Nichushkin are fine players they are not even in the same category as Mackinnon/Jones. It's like comparing Hodgson to Toews even though Hodgson is still a good player, he's not even in the same stratosphere as JT.

I agree with this 100% for most drafts. All of the franchise players go top 3 or top 5 if lucky. However, this draft is known for its exceptional depth. Obviously I understand that McKinnon, jones, drouin, barkov, are the elite in this draft, but the sabres aren't going to get in the top 4. That's why I'm saying it would be useless to give up anything for picks 5 and lower because they'll have their pick of the next tier down at 8. Hell, there will still be great players left at 16. When rebuilding more is better IMO when you're not in a position to draft "the guy"

Do you see where I'm coming from at least?

Sources say the Coyotes are closing in on a 6 year deal with Mike Smith. Not done yet, but believed to be around $5.5 mil per year.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 29m
Smith's extension with the Coyotes is still being finalized. Sounds like closer to $5.7 per year x 6 yrs.

I've been going to Amerks games for over 20 years watching the next great sabres prospects, more often then not when a guy is drafted in the first rd by Darcy they are not going to amount to anything, so many times over the years sabres fans act so excited about first rd picks like they are a 5 year old at Christmas time. Last year on the Amerks watching the so called amazing group of sabres prospects was just plain dull and lacking in excitement, none of the guys were showing me anything, Pysyk can't play tough or hit, his offensive skills are average at best like a Chris Butlers, McNabb was getting beaten wide by many of the faster AHL wingers who had speed to burn. The only scorers on the Amerks last year were AHL veterans like Mancari who have zero chance to make the NHL roster. Grigenson was NOT some amazing defensive player like all you goofs are saying hes the next Drury, he is a strong hard working player but I highly doubt he is going to be a big time NHL scorer. I've seen some damn great talented players rise up from the AHL over the last 25 years and I know natural scoring talent when I see it. When my team drafts in the first rd I want them to draft natural scoring talent...I don't want them to draft defensemen who can't score...cough cough Nurse. Would it be nice if Grigenson can someday score in the NHL like Chris Drury? Yes that would be nice but Darcy has a history of drafting busts in the first rd. It's a safe bet to make that any player Darcy drafts is not going to be anything special...

Over the years you hear all kinds of morons say "The guy is working on his offense and could develop into a scorer" LOL, why not listen to Bobby Orr when he says "You can't teach a guy to be a natural goal scorer but you can teach any player to play in his own zone because defensive play is hard work and position play. You either can score or you can't"...Instead of hoping a guy is going to somehow figure out how to score we should draft natural scoring talent, if a guy can't score big in junior hockey then what makes you think he is going to be a big scorer in the NHL? It's nice that Sabres fans are so positive and hold out hope that every year the first rd pick that Darcy made is going to be the next Brett Hull or Ray Bourque but I highly doubt it...He has a history of drafting guys with no mental toughness, look at Myers, the guy is soft as mink fur and earns 10 million dollars and can't even show up in shape to play. Myers is one of the worst pp defensemen I've seen in a lot of years, he just doesn't have that natural scoring talent like Coffey or Orr. It would have been nice to tank the season and not win all those games near the end, instead of trying to pretend to want to trade for a top 2 pick we could have earned one, a real GM would have made that happen.

Happy Draft day, hope you all don't go crying in your beer too much, going to be very disappointing, not expecting anything special, the 4 best players will be gone and we will get the best of whatever is left. Which might be ok, but it won't be a McKinnon, tell you what the Avalanche played the season to perfection, they are not as bad as their record was, they will challenge next season, definitely make the playoffs.

They are a better team than their record but until they fix their blue line and find a solution in net they will not be a playoff team

SABRES 89, you know better than I do , you have been here longer.
Take it with a grain of salt, you know that just about every poster here "has a source" or is the next GM for an NHL hockey franchise. I enjoy it now, I find it humorous.
Just like how I was made fun of for telling everyone before last year in camp when I was going to all the practices that Mike Weber had made great great strides on his game and it was very apparent. And that him and Adam Pardy were the 2 best dmen on the ice all through camp. Yet I was ridiculed for it and I was 100% right!
Been watching this game for over 45 years and watched it since some of the posters here were still poopting green.
Ignore the noise 89 like I do now. Look at it as entertainment.

We need a foundation player. Move to the top 3 and get 1. Our team stinks

This team is delusional. Instead of biting the bullet and tanking in the short season, they were trying to make the playoffs. They had it in their grasp and forced an extra year of "suffering" on us.
