That rich smith for allintel sports that everyone keeps copying his tweets now says montreal and detriot are hottest on vaneks tail...

I don't know det prospects but tinordi would be awfully nice from montreal

- JVince11

Frk and Jurco are two guys that come to mind from Detroit. Tinordi would be nice, Kristo/Collberg are pretty good too.

I would rather have pulkkinen than Frk but thats just me, I do like Collberg a lot too. Realistically if he goes to the habs we would probably get more than what we would get from Det.

Sources say the Coyotes are closing in on a 6 year deal with Mike Smith. Not done yet, but believed to be around $5.5 mil per year.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 29m
Smith's extension with the Coyotes is still being finalized. Sounds like closer to $5.7 per year x 6 yrs.

I admit, did not see that one coming. I bet the Flyers won't be too pleased.

asking price is probably top prospect, roster player and a 1st.

If it's not Jurco then it's Smith. I just don't see Darcy settling on a deal when it comes to Vanek.

A lot of people forget that before Pominville, Minny called about Vanek and said the price was too high for them but then they went ahead and gave up 4 assets for pominville. Begs the question, what kind of kings ransom were they/are they asking for Vanek?

That's only half true. For every player he overvalued and missed out on, there's another he overvalued and hit a homerun. I agree it can get frustrating but that isn't his biggest problem.

The Pominville trade was pretty fair, I thought Roy for Ott was decent too. I agree he assembled a bad core and should be fired for its failure but he's been the benefactor of constant change in ownership which essentially buys him a clean slate every time.

UFA is about overpaying players, the Myers contract is rough but he can still redeem himself. Not saying Darcy shouldn't be fired but your criticizing the wrong things. I'd say the biggest thing wrong with Regier is he tries to play it to safe especially in the trade market. He's not the kind of guy who will package a couple of top prospects and 1st for that big time player which probably pisses a lot of fans off. That and he hasn't won squat in 16 years

Its year 3 of Pegula. The goal was the cup. Now its suffering. Whats the goal now 2 years and we can fight for eighth

The destination hasn't changed, but the route has been altered. They realize they can't build their team with the core they had and add through FA. So now they've decided to take a page from Chi and Pit and try and build a contending team to through the draft. That's what the suffering hints at.

Wash doesnt have the cap for him long term. I would like to make a move with columbus to get some more picks (this year draft though)

They have 11.2 mil in cap space in 2014, They'd probably get a deal done (if he went there).

What's the piece on stafford?

Vanek is gone imo.. and 16th and a 2nd gets moved too

That's my guess

- JVince11

WPG asked him for a 3rd and 5th. CBJ put something worse. I hope Darcy can convince them for something better

From a Yotes fan who will remain nameless:

@phoenixcoyotes don't do it! Smitty is not worth it, remember way back to this season when he sucked? Get Ryan Miller! He wants out west!

Hello everyone!! Longtime reader of hockeybuzz and I'm a huge fan of the sabres! I finally decided to get an account and I'm excited to talk hockey with some knowledgable peeps.

My first question...why would the sabres want to give up anything to move up in this draft? They'll have an abundance of talented players falling to 8. If everything goes the way most seem to think then at least one of lindholm, monahan, or nichuschkin will be there along with at least one of risto/nurse. Why give up anything when they're guaranteed, if they so choose, to walk away with one of these 5?

It might be but there are some people that have just as much or less of a negative attitude about this team as I do, I atleast wait until I see a person on the board before I mention there name. Something that really bothers me about this site.

I would gve up a lot for Tyler Seguin. Would be amazing to have him. I like Richards and as soon as he got traded from Philly I was ecstatic. Hopefully Seguin goes somewhere good. Tampa would be insane.

There is top level talent DR said every team needs. He should be focused on him rather than moving into the top 3 in this years draft.

edit: it might not be enough, but i am fine giving up the 8th, 16th and armia for him, if they are trying to shred salary.

I give it 3 weeks before you are sorely disappointed.

That question is easy to answer, you build teams around elite talent who are going 1,2,3 in this draft. While guys like Lindholm and Nichushkin are fine players they are not even in the same category as Mackinnon/Jones. It's like comparing Hodgson to Toews even though Hodgson is still a good player, he's not even in the same stratosphere as JT.
