What we have here is an old fashioned cluster(frank). But, as usual, follow the money. As in, if the Canucks aren't willing to spend any.

I think Lu will be bought out next year if he is fading. I still think Schneider will be gone tomorrow. - VANTEL
I just can't put that much faith into Lack/Eriksson, there's plenty of young goalies that put up very good numbers in the AHL that never pan out in the NHL. Check out a guy like Ben Scrivens for example. I think having such a good goaltending duo for all these years and has kind of made Canucks fans take having great goaltending for granted and underestimate it. There isn't a more valuable position or player in the game of hockey, a bad or mediocre goaltending performance can make a great team just look good and make a good team look really mediocre. Meanwhile a top 5/10 goalie makes a good team look great. |

Yeah but what happens when Kovy and Hossa and Doughty have to be bought out in 5 years. Gillis is not the only GM but he is getting the blame . - VANTEL
Doughty is only 23 so his contract is fine. As for Hossa and Kovy, I agree they're contracts will look really bad in a few years. |

What's the worst case scenario? MG does not buyout Lu and can't trade either goalie for what he wants, or he trades Schneider for Sam Gagner and a second? |

I would do that too. Unfortunately I don't think the Panthers would have any interest. |

(frank). So basically if Gillis doesn't want to waive Luongo(and he won't unless he talks to another team that says that they will claim him) then it looks like Schneider's gone. (frank) this team. |

Worst case scenario is any scenario that involves keeping Luongo and trading Schneider. |

Sincere question: any chance this whole "trade Schneider" stuff stems from the owner not wanting to spend the $ to buy out Lu? |

And I'm pretty sure that mediocre/terrible goaltending (frank)ed that team over for years in the playoffs. Give that team a Luongo(of a few years ago) or Schneider and they would have had a very good shot at a cup. |

Teams that have won the cup recently have not had that stud overpriced goalie every year. Crawford Halak Howard are three names in the last decade that have done it. I would not be surprised if Eddie Lack in 4 years or so is a cup winner. - VANTEL

Why wouldn't Gillis put him on waivers?
If he clears, it only opens the door to buyout. It doesn't close any doors. |

Throw in Ballard and you could probably get the 2nd overall pick too.
To Vancouver:
Huberdeau
Gudbranson
Markstrom
2nd Overall
To Florida:
Schneider
Ballard
Florida gets a #1 goaltender and a top-4 D-man, while the Canucks deal with some of Florida's spare parts. It's a win-win scenario!

Well it sounds like Aquilini doesn't want to pay up to buy him out. So Gillis would only waive him if he knew that he would get claimed otherwise if he clears then he has to keep him and trade Schneider and the media would be all over the "he went from being waived to your starting goalie!" |

I just want to say Ian, the trade proposal in your blog is worse than a Garth or Cloutier proposal.
Everyone is now dumber from reading your blog. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul. |
