I don't know. I view the premium for defense as very, very high. Maybe that's because TB doesn't have much defense.

edler's a funny player.
dominant top pairing guy one night, bonehead decision making 3rd pairing the next.

Very intriguing for me. Based on TB's situation, I doubt Yzerman would do it though. He might, but I think he's pretty content with sticking at three. As much as everyone says the team needs defense, it also needs a new 2C and a winger for Stamkos. Keeping three should address one of those concerns.

I've got a feeling that Tortorella might change that, if Edler sticks around in Vancouver.

Edler either does one of the 3

1) gets traded
2)completely falls apart Ala Phanuef in Calgary
3)becomes a top 5 d man in the league

I was thinking Dineen?

NYI, Flyers, Tampa or Florida could really use him and provide a very good return. I don't care where he goes, but I do care about the return!!!

He's got all the tools, which makes it so hard to watch him on nights when he's struggling. You know the potential for greatness is there. A coach like Torts might bring it out on a more consistent basis.

I see a ton of value in Edler (from a trade perspective). This probably isn't something you hear much in here, but I think you're selling his value short. I look at the Gonchar comparable and the Streit comparable as perfect examples. I'd take an inconsistent Edler over a fully function Gonchar seven days a week. Get Edler some consistency and he's right there with the best.

I keep coming back to either 5th overall (CAR) or 11th overall (PHI). At five you're bound to get a great forward, and at eleven you're likely to get a chance at Zadorov. I think that Z would be a fantastic addition to the Canucks's blue line.

What else we getting with 11?

Edler and 24 for Coutourier and 11?

I suggested a complex two-deal proposal a couple pages back. It's an absolute pipe dream though.

What do you think the odds are that Drouin's still there @ 5?

For that to happen it would need to go MacKinnon, Jones, Nichushkin, Barkov, Drouin. I can't see that happening. Though, if there was ever a team to take a flyer on Nichushkin at three it's certainly the Lightning. I know that Al Murray, our Director of Amateur scouting, likes him. Still, I know the team also likes Drouin. I just can't seen Drouin getting past Tampa and then Nashville too.

I'm leaning towards believing that the top-4 is pretty much set. It's just a matter of who goes where in that group.

So the rumour is out there, the oilers offered the 7 pick and Klefbon for Schneider.

I'm not sure that is a whole lot different than what I said it would take.

So do you do it?

Agreed. So for Drouin to drop to five, I think that Nichushkin has to go to Tampa.

Hell no. You're giving Edmonton (a division rival) a major piece to their puzzle without taking any pieces out of it... and that's not even considering the other 100 reasons it's stupid as (frank) move.
