25 goal forwards who can play in all situations, aren't easily replaced.
- MJL

They're a lot easier to replace than a top pairing young Dman under team control for years that's for darn sure.

He's gone in 1 year which is why I would do it.

How do you know that? He can be re-signed.

I would not do that deal. It's too much. And even though he's highly rated. There is no guarantee.

That's not replacing Read. That's just using a player who is already on the team, and in the lineup.
- MJL

Would you rather have Read and Coburn or a young franchise dman who will be ready to break into the lineup as early as next season? I think Read was an undrafted free agent signing who's ended up being a very valuable trade asset. That's awesome. Homer created good value out of no value. Now I'd like to see it cashed in for our #1 team need.

He could be, but Read at a higher salary is not worth 2 first rd picks, IMO. So if giving him up get's me the best Dman in the draft and eeps me in the first rd at 22, I do it in a heartbeat.

They can get a good defenseman with the 11th pick. They could even get a top defenseman in the 2nd round. They can use Read and Coburn to acquire other players. Let's throw in Simmonds also by that logic. Because would you rather have a franchise defenseman, or 3 players who are apparently "easy to replace".

Having Read signed to solid deal, increases his trade value. Not decreasing it. Either way he's not worth 2 firsts.

Who would be harder to acquire through trade; Matt Read, or Alex Pietrangelo?

Would you do the proposed deal Read and #72 for #22 and #28?

A fast, gritty player like Simmonds isn't easy to replace. It'd be like acquiring Bobby Ryan or Evander Kane.

is that why the Flyers couldn't even get a backup goalie for him? I like Read, but I'd definately trade him for 2 first rd picks. In a heartbeat.

Ok, so you would definitely do Read and #72 for #22 and #28. Now that we've established that would you trade Coburn for #5?

Who on the Flyers that they could realistically obtain would they be interested in?

Only if Valeri Nichushkin is there at 5. If not play the odds with the 11 and keep our solid 3-4 d man

Well see the idea is fine and dandy in theory. Get a franchise dman and only lose 2 not terribly essential roster players. The problem is that the deal has so many moving parts that if one thing goes awry then your out of luck. If I was Homer and wanted to do this deal, I would work backwards and start with Florida. Offer them the pieces you plan to have, and if they accept in theory, then move back in line and start working out deals with Carolina and Calgary. If one doesn't go for it then you're not caught like a deer in headlights with nothing to do but work with a half-complete draft-day plan.

I think the idea is to trade Coburn + for Carolina's 5th; Trade Read + for Calgary's 2 later picks (28 and 22); Trade our 11th, 5th, 28th, 22nd, and whatever else for Florida's 2nd. So who is available at #5 isn't really relevant in this theoretical.

Well it's all probably bs anyway because now it's said that Calgary offerred the Flyers #6 for #11, Coburn and Read. LMAO.

If that's the case I wouldn't do it. I don't really see a large difference in prospects from #6 to #12 or so.

Florida really wants a forward. I'd hate to break up the young core on offense, but would Florida consider B. Schenn, #11 + for 2?

Sorry. Unrelated. The recent update has Flyers close to a deal with the Kings. It's all smoke screen BS anyway.
