can't be serious

all the talk out of the draft has been "it is very expensive to move up", especially into the top 4-5 picks

these guys are not giving out the full picture

- Marc D

If those 2 deals exist I would bet they're an either or, but not both(exclusive Or). I don't see Calgary moving all 3 first rounders.

To take that a step further part of the plan was to get bigger forwards so look at the haul (Jake, Simmonds, coots, schenn) and the ufa's we let go that season were smaller. Now add homers comments this off season again about getting bigger and notice how read is on the block and Briere is gone. Ilike the direction here.

And look what all the rumors are, from reliable sources. Rumors of the Flyers trying to add youth, and move up in the draft. There is a clear plan of trying to build for the future.

My gut feeling:

Homer is deadpan against trading Read.

I don't know why I think that, but I do. Maybe it's the lack of name dropping in rumors, especially during this past season, even though he's cheap as hell and would fetch a pretty nice return to a contender?

I dunno. I just don't think we'll see him dealt unless it's for an all star Dman

- Giroux_Is_God

I believe I heard somewhere that he's attempting to trade him already in the past.

So, would we call it rebuilding then? Or are we still on retooling?

Yeah 22 and 28 for Read and a 3rd I think Homer would be all over that.
- jstross

Wow, That would be tremendous, and awful on calgarys part. Like their GM should be fired

I agree. If the Flyers want to be competing seriously, you need guys like read who far outplay their cap hit.

Been at work all day. I got the rumor of read, 3rd for calgary first rounders. What was the other rumor about their 6th pick?

I love these rumors. the Flyers trade Read and Coburn and get back #22, #28, #37, #56 and Paajarvi and keep #11 and #41.

If Homer could pull that off he gets an A+. they could definitely find a Dman in a deal with

11, 22, 28, 37, 41 and 56. WOW. Paajarvi replaces Read with future cost certainty.

See, I think it's the opposite.

I agree that Homer really likes Matt Read, but he also knows that there just isn't a way to sign him that makes any kind of sense -- you gotta give Giroux his money, you are looking for a difference maker on defense and that's gonna cost money, Schenn and Couturier need extensions, and somebody is gonna get more than Steve Mason's earning this season to play the net either this year or next.

I agree, I don't think they WANT to trade Matt Read. I just think they've crunched the numbers and realize that fair market value for Matt Read...that just might be something they can't do, and you have to get an asset for someone with his kind of value.

It would also be about 12th on the list of terrible decisions made by Jay Feaster that should see him fired, so par for the course out there.

Call it whatever you want. I call it trying to build a team that can contend for many years ahead. I remember distinctly, how the fans in LA were calling for Lombardi's head, and lacked patience. Lombardi waited and made the right moves. Flyers have to do the same thing. It's going to take some time.

I can't see that happening. I think Calgary is really looking to pull an Edmonton and atrocious for a few years. Pretty obvious when they trade all their best players except glencross

What did that cost them? A future 4th round pick. You can't have an entire team of 20 year old's. While building the team towards the future. You can also try and win. Need a mix of veterans and youth.

They probably should do that, but Read is still pretty young and just entering his prime. You can build with him for the future and now. I really like him, but the rumored trade is a gross overpayment.

Right.... Someone has to lead these guys on the ice or how will they improve. The right mix of vets is important to a team. Hopefully streit fits the bill.

Doesn't take much to understand this. Staw grasping to support a false theory. You need balance.

Pretty much my thoughts. Read might be a good guy to go gett for them, but he also may be a free agent next season. Also, he's 27, lacks nhl experience that you would want in a "mentor". I don't think that deal happens

I've seen him play quite a bit in the last few years, being the most casual of edmonton fans (they are fun to watch) and I really do not like him. It may be that he doesn't fit in the free wheeling style, but...

I think the Flyers will trade Read this offseason or sign him to an extension. I don't believe they will go into the season with him on the roster for one more year. Teams that trade for him now can also sign him to an extension before free agency. That will lower the cap hit because he will have the security without having to play the season worrying about injuries.
