trade the face/faces of the team for quality youth and a high draft pick.

not sure how that's completely different.

The sixers have no intentions of becoming a better team next year. They won't be signing a bryzgalov like contract this summer

Just curious, you guys think its worth it to include Coburn to move up 5 slots or so in the draft? Coburn is a top 4 damn on just about every team in the league. He is in his prime, and I always thought got a bad rap. I think the system has a lot to do with the defensive issues with the Flyers, not so much the players. You will still get a potentially great player at 11, why not just stay there. I don't know if I would move Coburn.

I agree. I think there would be more to the deal.

If it means getting a shot at Monahan, Lindholm or Nichushkin, I'd be tempted.

Just got home from nephews Bday party, all I thought about was coming back here and checking twitter. Sorry kid, but nobody has a 6 1/2 year birthday. You were born Dec. 27th, just deal with it.

i think everyone will be very angry if they use coburn just to move up in the draft. would have to be a lot more coming back (unless of course we're holding on to the 11)

I keep reading this, and it's hard to understand. Do you wish the Flyers would not attempt to make their team better?
- MJL

MJL,

I took it as: I don't want the Flyers to give away the prospects and get older players in their prime just to try to win this year, instead of developing the young talent..

I'm sure you took it to mean that as well?

he doesnt seem to get that the NBA is completely different. it's about 5 players. not 10-12 like an NHL team's core.

the sixers will take like 2-4 years to rebuild. It took the Penguins and blackhawks like 8 years.

Yea there must be more to it if they will trade Coburn. I couldn't do it unless I knew I was coming out on top of that deal.

What about past next year? What team makes that kind of move based on one year? It's about the future. The future is far more then just next year. And you're bringing something into the picture that has zero to do with the equation. How does a move that they won't make, come into play in comparing what moves were made. To the Flyers and the Richards and Carter trades?

Dreger reported that we had offers of 5th overall from CAR and 7th overall + a 3rd from EDM for Coburn?

Then Garrioch said Calgary offered their two lower firsts for Read + a 3rd?

Trade Read + Coburn and end up with 5th + 11th + 22nd + 28th?

Seriously?

Yea good point. This draft is a wildcard. So many potentially great players. Still tough for me to move him unless I knew you were getting a sure thing.

the Flyers have refused to trade their young top prospects. Schenn, Couts, Simmonds, Voracek... all still on the team since the Richards/Carter trades

Those guys are as close as they'll get outside the top 4.

I'm fine with trading, back, too. In fact, unless they absolutely love the guy at 11, I advocate moving back and trying to grab and extra 1st rounder

If that had been offered just as that sounds, I can't believe Homer wouldn't have taken that -- if you're actively shopping Coburn and Read only has one year left on his deal, it doesn't get better than that.

The statement seemed to suggest that the Flyers weren't showing patience. And that he wished they would. It was pretty clear. There seems to be a myth that has developed in the fanbase, that the Flyers don't have a plan. I think the lack of patience is with the fanbase. And that's understandable. But when the Flyers radically changed direction, and traded 17 & 18. It was known that it wasn't going to be an overnight process. The process is still ongoing.
