Just reading through the comments

Vinny met with about 10 teams today and the rangers were not one of them do not see any way heis coming here.

Also somebody posted a article about rangers prospects and it said McIllrath is about 2-3 years away still I woul don't be trading away a dman hoping he takes that spot.

- fquicks

Not that it would matter, I dont think there are many suitors for him anyway.

DZ + Thomas/Bourque for Wheeler + low end prospect.
- aecliptic

I just checked, Winnipeg has 12 players under contract with a bunch of RFA's (including Wheeler) to re-sign. If they have a strength and assuming they extend Bogosian, I would say D is their deepest position. I don't know if they would deal Wheeler unless they reach an impasse in contract negotiations.

mcilrath was considered the best Dman on the whale this past season and should compete for a spot at training camp. he's a longshot to make the roster still but he has the potential to make it imo.

And I am assuming that Wheeler is going to make a poop ton of money with his numbers the past couple of years. Seems like a $5 million player, so the MDZ money trade off wouldn't work.

I don't know how close he is, but I will say this, if he truly is 2-3 years away, he's never going to make it.

Exactly. Whatever cap space we'd have would be gone.

haha I hope you come back to the good side by the time the season starts. This Richards decision is turning you pure evil

I always figured that even though I didn't agree with some moves the Rangers have made over the years, I would always reconcile it by saying "hey they must know things I don't" after all, they're running the New York Rangers. Until today, this defies any logic or common sense. This move confirms the inmates are running the asylum. But, I'll be in place come opening night, waiting for the 1st dzone face off loss by Richie, or the 1st home run pass by MDZ, that is picked off in center ice and turned into the 1st 2 on 1 of the year. "Oh that was an ill advised pass by Del Zotto, Joe"

Well, if we trade for Wheeler... Fast becomes expendable, plus we have Bourque, Thomas, Hrivik as potential trade bait. We can offer them some good forward prospects.

the article said he is still 2-3 years away from being fully physically mature. meaning this kid still has 2-3 years of growing and bulking before he's done.

he will compete for a spot this season i think. probably won't make it, but he will be one of the final cuts and hopefully get a call up in the middle.

also, apparently brady skjei has an amazing cannon of a shot. we have that to look forward to in the future

yea that's true but we can't assume that's gonna happen with our kids. i expect miller to step up and contribute but mcilrath might still be a year away and fast and lindberg might need to play in the AHL the full year to adjust to the game.

we just don't know and can't be counting on those kids. i hope they do obviously and anything can happen. all i know is that i can't wait for next season to start!

oh and:
Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper 4m
Other names coming off 1st yr deals being dropped in #NHL trade talk besides #Bruins Seguin, #Canes Skinner #Sabres Myers. #veryfewofflimits

rangers and canes make great trade partners and there are a lot of options or pieces that can work in favor of them making a trade. we have stockpiled defense and can trade one of staal or mdz to the canes and the canes have pieces we want that they are willing to move like skinner or the #5 pick. wouldn't be surprised to see something go down between the 2 squads.

- rangerdanger94

One wrinkle on any trades of canes and rangers are we are in the same division now..

And Skjei is another elite skating defensemen. His decision making and offensive instinct is a bit of question mark, but in today's NHL, with defensemen placed at such a significant disadvantage, if you can skate, that is a real good first step to becoming a solid NHLer

It won't stop them from trading that 5th overall pick to the Pens for Letang. They are in the same division as well.

Skjei is more of a stay at home defenseman, and they say hes got the hardest shot of all our prospects.

What you think of wheeler, jan?
- Slimtj100

Always liked Wheeler, question is cost. You all know I am a big MDZ fan and concerned enough about Staal's eye that I think dealing MDZ, even to get someone like Wheelr, could bet the Rangers in the butt down the road and this year.

It's crazy you can be a great skating dman, have a hard shot and have no offensive ability really haha

Initially he was projected as a two-way defenseman with good puck handling skills, but I guess he was an adolescent among boys, lol... not quite a man. Hes supposedly going to get more time with the puck this up coming season.

Its fine as long as he makes the smart easy play, rather than try and do too much. Thats what ultimately usually hurts players who arent as good, trying to do too much and going beyond their abilities.

What do you guys make of Alex Edler? Tied in for the next 6 years at $5 million per, and was identified by one hockey writer as the most likely Canuck player to have issues playing with Torts, and the Canucks should consider moving him now.

I dont think we can afford to have Elder AND McDonagh on the same blue line this year.

What do you guys think of the rumor that the Rangers are trying to acquire the rights to Scuderi?

This could be a domino for a secondary, major deal.

Only makes a million more than Staal. Just don't see the Canucks play alot because I'm usually out like a light by the time they start.
