So, this is interesting, because apparently a player has to clear waivers before they can be bought out. Would anyone put in a claim for him knowing he was about to be bought out, especially the Panthers, knowing Lu wants to play there? - 1970vintage
Thoughts are a few teams would. |

No, he'll be bought out, or put on waivers. Canucks wont get anything for him. - gunner2233 Mike Gillis and Ownership have to suck up their egos. Mistakes happen it takes a real man to own up to them regardless of the 32 mil bill. I don't blame Luongo for signing the contract sh!t anyone of us would have but he played his part in the situation. |

I wonder what the ramifications are if Lu says that he wont report to the new team. If for example a crap team put a claim in (Winnipeg for example).
Anyone know the rules behind that. If he chooses not to report does he just get suspended and does the team still get the cap hit? |

No trade clause. The team is handcuffed. |

We have 2/3 of a 3rd line. Hansen and Higgins. Still need a centre. - KB3Point0
Yes my math is poor... So taking that in they need a 2nd line winger and 3rd line center man that a tall order with what's available through FA |

Our 3rd line shouldn't be our worry. Besides Malholtra? He might play. |

This would be a good trade for both teams. But I don't think Luongo will come back after this fiasco although he has said he just wants to be the starter. But there are some OK goalies on the market. - robpat
Maybe it is AV's handling of the situation that pissed Lu off and he will give it another try under Torts with guarantees of being the starter? |

With Ballard I do question intelligence though. How the hell do you 2 hand slash your own goalie across the face?? Like come on how the hell does that even happen? - thundachunk
Yet when you hear him in interviews he seems above average cerebral. |

I like Letang and all but I would never want to pay him 7.5mil. I think even 7mill is too much for that guy. - Bluechip23
Take Letang away from Crosby, Malkin et al and you have a slight better than average dman offensively and average dman. I would take PK Subban over Letang in a heart beat. Letang got his points from who he was playing with while Subban got his points with most no names as he was the key. Bottom line Letang is a jerk turning down the 56 million offer and proves where he is at. |

That would be awesome and be interesting if Torts would actually prefer Luongo. Would solve the money issue and make a lot of Canuck fans happy. Play Lou and trade the redhead Schneider who I personally am not a fan of. Let Eriksson back up Lou and upgrade your D or second line center for the return on Schneider. Your not getting nothing back if you get rid of Lou and pay him millions. Any owner with a brain would rethink this and get this done as above. |

I wish people would research recapture possibilities before stating what "any owner with a brain" would do...
If we keep him past this offseason, our circumvention benefit (aka figure for recapture penalty) continues to grow through 2017/18... Then when we are forced to trade him later (or sit him on our bench until he decides to retire), the recapture possibilities are even worse (much worse) than they are now.
He'd have to play out his FULL contract here or elsewhere for it to be worth the gamble and I don't think he will.
Buy him out... Then turn around and offer his cap hit to LeCavalier. |

Bottom (frank)ing line:
MG is a fukking idiot if he doesn't waive/buyout Luongo!
Trading him for scrubs or keeping him will (frank) this team over big time in the future....it's amazing to me that so many people continue to overlook this poop!
Keep the ginger..lose the greasy Italian!

This is what has made all the trade proposals so amusing. "But he's still a top goalie." |

Lu can be bought out by the Canucks at any time over the next five years. Let's say he plays for the Nucks for the next four years, after that he's bought out. Not a big deal! |

Hilarious, it went from Gillis wanting Kadri and Gardiner for Lu, to not being able to trade Lu and having to shop Scheider.
Brilliant. |
|
|
|
Biggest mistake ownership made was not firing Gillis.
Jim Nill would have righted this ship around and in 2 years have this team contending again. If they want to keep Lu go frickin ahead.
Trade Schneider for oilers 7th pick and Gagner.
Take that 7th pick and Edler to Florida and draft Jones.
Right there you get your stud defenseman for 10 years and your 3rd line center. |
