plus we forgot :

niemi
crawford (won a cup i don't care)
bobby lou
BOBROVSKY

those could be at least even / argued better than schneider

- clark_griswold

Isn't the whole Luongo situation based on Schneider being better than Luongo? Otherwise we'd just keep Lu and trade Cory.

And what the f*ck has Bob proved???

Keep digging that hole!

Do I need to know everything to know Lu's contract is awful?
- djamon

why don't we stop the Lu talk. he's not going anywhere. lu and torts will be best buddies because he likes to block shots. schneider is the piece you have to trade and to make himself not look like a total ass, gillis is trying to get a massive package so people focus on what we get rather than what we give up.

we already have the best goalie in north america not playing in the nhl in lack and the best one not playing in the nhl, in europe, in eriksson plus the cannata so we're fine in goal. keep lu and make a push for the next 3 years with team we have. if we miss, tear the female dog down.

Fair enough. It is hugely hypothetical.

That was the point.

Bob's shown just as much as, if not more, than Schneider.

Dreger also reported that there are a lot teams that would claim him if he were to go on waivers.
As I said before, I've got a few buddy's who work inside the Canucks organization. The fact that people even think Luongo will be going on waivers is funny to me. But people like you, who probably watch 1 or 2 Nucks games a year and don't have any buddy's on the inside like I do, just come here to troll anyway so we don't take you seriously. Can't wait to come here Sunday and see people's reactions to what Gillis has in store.

- hankthetank

The only thing I recall Dreger saying about waivers is that if Lu really wanted to get out of the deal, he could refuse to report to the team next year. He'd still have to be put through waivers first but if he cleared, the Canucks could void the contract.

Dude...you're hilarious. Mostly unintentionally.

I watched almost every Canuck game this year, I live in Victoria...they're all Sportsnet will show. But it's not about the team on the ice anyways. It's about the damn contract. The damn contract that will go with him whether he's claimed on waivers or traded. Gillis has refused to retain salary already, so...

- djamon

Look at the offer Letang just turned down. He's going to want 8 million a year for a long term. And you know what? There's GMs out there who will offer that to him.
Luongo is slightly older but is better at his position than Letang. And his cap hit is only 5.3 milion. Leafs fans are a lost cause. Take the jealousy and hate for Vancouver out of the equation for a second and think about it from a hockey stand point.

No, but you clearly know what's in the mind of every GM in the league and how it relates to this contract.

Yes, his contract (under the current CBA conditions, is awful). But a team with a high payroll could easily absorb this with little risk as most of the cap savings have been absorbed by Vancouver already.

Settle down...we're all just giving opinions here. No one knows everything or exactly what's going to happen.

For me, it sums up like this...Gillis is playing a game of chicken. He still thinks he can make a hockey trade, but in the meantime he needs to make additions to his team and he can't until he clears Luongo (or Ballard or Booth) off the books. I think a lot of players are going to move in the next 2 weeks and if Gillis waits too long he'll be left on the sideline.

Bob's numbers in his first 2 NHL seasons were below average. He had a great season this year where he played 38 games. He has not shown more than Cory.

Letang, on the open market, can't sign for more than 7 years. He's 26 right now. That would bring him right through his prime to 33 years old. Roberto is already 34 and has 9 years left on his deal. There's no jealousy or hate in the equation. Why would a team send multiple key pieces to the Canucks when said team knows the Canucks have to deal him? The return isn't going to be near your expectations.

He's had one great year. He played 38 games. He was below average the previous two years he played in the NHL. He has now shown ANY consistency yet, which is exactly what Cory has shown.

If Schneider hadn't been (frank)ed around by the presence of Bobby Loser, he would have been right there statistically with Bobrovsky this season... And FAR better than him last season and the season prior.

"Jealousy and hate"...? Come on.

Please don't compare those 2 players and their respective situations. It's not even close...and I would never pay Letang $8m/year either. But at least he's 26 and defensemen are hugely valued right now.

I've made the case multiple times and in most cases after I explain the facts people agree with it. I'm not going to get into it again, but my buddy's on the inside know more than you so I'll believe them. You'll see on Sunday when the deals start going down.

On this we agree, I think he already waited too long. If Gillis manages a trade fans won't like what comes back.

I'd buyout Lu and trade Bieksa and Kesler, that's $14.9m in cap savings which would allow you to give Booth another chance. Maybe Ballard sticks with a new coach.

I'm not making a projection here. Bobs could sh!t the bed from here on out. But when you win the Vezina you've shown more than a guy who's never been a full-time starter.

Having said that I would still prefer Schneider going forward.

This is a good segue into the next topic: ALEX EDLER.
I have it on good authority that he too will be traded. Given the value of top pairing d-men right now it's safe to say that the Canucks will be receiving quite the package in return for Edler as well.
