In what world are Shattenkirk and Letang basically the same player?
- hankthetank

He is, just younger. Neither are great defensively, but very good offensive players. I guess Shattenkirk could be demanding the $$$ that Letang is right now once his deal is up, but that is way too much for a defenseman that is not great in his own end.

yes the Colisé Pepsi where the QC Remparts play (15 000 seats) and the old forum of the Nordiques.

Also there is a 19 000 seat arena being built.

- Alexzanki

A $7mil reno project to get it NHL ready.

The 15,000+ capacity, merchandise, RDI and TSN deals would make this a top 15 revenue team in it's first year.

I just don't see any free agents wanting to play there. If top French Canadien players wont go to Montreal due to "public pressure", taxes, weather, etc, how the hell would Quebec land any as it would be 100x worst.

There is no English community in Quebec City. So any player moving there would likely feel like an outsider.

Although I would love to see the Habs/Nordique rivalry, I just don't see Quebec making it.

How did suter not win this ???
- Redmile247

Actually, it's a really funny story. Apparently, the writers whose job it is to watch and report on all the games have organized themselves into some kind of association that votes on the award winners at the end of the season. More of those writers felt that PK had a better overall year than Suter, and voted accordingly. Weird, right?

Subban winning takes nothing away from how good Suter or Letang are. Amazing that so many people seem to take it that way.

Shattenkirk is on a bridge deal from entry level to his next big one.

Letang is about to finish his bridge contract at 3.5 and will be moving onto the big one. You guys are comparing apples to oranges.

Shattenkirk is a fantastic player however he is not at Letangs level yet. Give him the three years of that bridge and see if he gets nominated for the most points by a dman trophy(Norris).

- nelson911

And if Shattenkirk even wants a contract like Letang just reportedly turned down, I will laugh. That is way too much to offer, let alone be turned down, by a defenseman that is not great in his own end.

I have one final thing to say about this rediculous Sidney Crosby argument. A lot of hockey fans are the most immature sports fans in all of sport! When you watch a hockey game that features Crosby and the Pens, how can you enjoy the game with all the hatred you idiots feel for him?
- LunaticFringe

Same could be said about PK Subban. He gets booed everywhere he goes. It's not immaturity, it's passion. You should try being passionate, it's fun.

Shattenkirk is a wussy and overpaid. Letang is at least willing to drop the gloves and throw a cheap shot here and there. He's not worth $7 million, but neither is Doughty or Webber.

Bring on Seattle!!!

The influx of canadians going there will be gigantic and I think the Everett Silvertips fans will be intrigued as well.

Going to the KEY will be a good test to see if a new arena could work.

- nelson911

Roger that!!...Perhaps a new arena with an NHL team will help the NBA move along quicker. Seattle will do well...(Totems? Thunderdirds? Metropolitans?)

Right, dude, you ooze immaturity! I don't hate Subban, I'd love to have him on my team, and I don't hear the same venom towards Subban as I do for Crosby, NOT EVEN CLOSE! And technically he deserves a hell of a lot more with the way he plays (on the edge).

I think a Seattle team would be fantastic. They've got a natural rivalry with Vancouver, a deceptively strong hockey fan base that covers a broad swath from Idaho to Oregon. That said, Quebec, like Ontario, is just too lucrative and populous a market not to exploit.
- oniremosewa

I remember the days of the New Westminster Bruins, Seattle Thunderbirds and Portland Winterhawks. There is a large hockey presence in Seattle. The Pacific Northwest has always been underserved.

This award is slowly losing it's allure... It's all about points and the better defenseman in the league aren't being recognized ... Short season tho so I guess next year we will see if the big boys can bounce back ... Good for pk tho ... Terrible for the Habs come contract time tho

It has to do with wanting the no movement clause... Letang knows the PEns have tons of prospects coming up the pipeline and Despres is on the rise. He knows the Pens will trade him down the line. The contracts are based on points... that is why Letang is being paid so much, his +/- is very good, I wouldn't look too much into just his playoff play of this year, maybe even Philly last year too. He plays in a ridiculous defensive system and didn't have a solid partner throughout the year. He dishes out lots of hits and during the regular season he was very solid.

No.....the question is - would you rather have Letang at his price or Shattenkirk at his? If we are talking simply which player would you take if price wasn't taken into account, then Letang wins. So while I agree with your other comments, the issue is relative.......which guy would you take at the price paid?

I think Suter and Subban were the right two to battle it out. Subban won only by a slight edge. I think Suter is better in his zone, but compared to Letang or Karlsson, Subban is also very good in his zone. Subban being a good skater makes high risk plays, but his rewards are point.
If Suter would have won instead of Subban, I would have understood it. I'm glad a Habs finally won a recognise award though.

It is going to be expensive come next year

Seattle Metropolitans Logo (so the Thnderbirds already have their 3rd jersey available)

Or... The Seattle Coyotes

Or The Las Vegas Coyotes

Or The Quebec City Coyotes (Amazing it is the same word in Eng and Fr)

Or The Hamilton Coyotes

And of course, if they stay in Glendale....

They did have mild interest at the deadline, inquired but dropped out of it fairly early. I tend to agree though.

They're also the team he would have ended up with IMO if the rebuild had been approved when it should have been (2-3 years earlier)

What would be interesting is if Feaster pulled in Iggy and Vinny...

That's the original Metropolitan Jersey.

But unless they call them the Mets, This name will not be approved. Something that is "Metro" is now slang for "Metrosexual". Not going to happen.
