AS PER TSN: Bettman puts a July 2nd deadline of the city of Glendale to bend over and re-enact the scene from Deliverance. (maybe the second part is not per tsn)

Actually I think it is a little insulting for Bettman to say that it will be Glendale's fault.

Also, I don't think this was widely reported but before the Canucks moved their team to New York, they put in a application to go to the Key Arena in Seattle but were denied with the very unusual explanation that another NHL team, although, not named and not confirmed, in now under contract (deposit). Obviously it is the NHL and the Coyotes.

I do also think it is a quite poor that he would do this on the long weekend, under the excitement of the draft and free agents and buyout, almost to get lost in the noise of the NHL and hope no one looks at this too seriously.

Be prepared to hear that Bettman bettered the NHL and saved the franchise by moving it and he is, after all is said and done, a hero.

I just wonder why he fought tooth and nail to keep the Coyotes and yet relinquished the trashers without saying a word.

UFA after next season.
Seattle Whalers sounds cool. Don't they need a goalie and shouldn't the NHL have to pay for allowing these sucky contracts?

My understanding is that there were zero local options left in Atlanta (and I'm sure he tried for months and months) while in Phoenix there have been several, albeit none of them actually with the required cash.

Remember, the Coyotes were literally minutes away from moving to Winnipeg a few years ago, but Glendale decided to throw more money down the pit and so Atlanta moved instead.

Is there really that big of a difference between Shattenkirk & Letang? 4 yrs $17M for Shattenkirk, and Letang is turning down what???

Apparently it was because of the big tv deal with NBC in the states. They needed to have two teams in the Mountain time zone I believe it is. Not sure what's changed now.

It has to do with TV rights in a large region (I think I read somewhere it is the 11th largest in the states where as Atlanta is part of a much more saturated market.) and the Philly owner owns those TV stations. It was the "Super majority" of NHL owners that forced it thinking somehow, someway, someone would buy it or Glendale would accept huge losses.

Also keep in mind how easily the Jets could have come from Phoenix instead; it was literally minutes away from happening. Hard to say whether Glendale or the NHL is more responsible for the team still being there.

I don't think the Thrashers leaving had nearly the same economic implications as the Coyotes would to Glendale.

so its not a guarantee they move to Seattle then if it has nothing to do with a montain time zone agreement (from another user post) but it was rather the regional potential that kept the Coyotes in Pheonix for so long

By the way, I predicted this yesterday but it still hurts:

Feaster said he will have interest in Lecavalier. Earlier he's said that he won't pursue "post-apex" players but according to him, Vinny "transcends post-apex". I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

still have no idea why the kings are rumored as a stop for iginla. there's zero cap space and the last thing we need is another rw.

All reports have them going to Seattle but Daly claims QC is not out of the question either. I think it's Seattle

They did have mild interest at the deadline, inquired but dropped out of it fairly early. I tend to agree though.

They're also the team he would have ended up with IMO if the rebuild had been approved when it should have been (2-3 years earlier)

The part that I found most interesting is that "this other party" has put down a deposit of the building and rights for the region. No one else falls under that description but the NHL. No team can get "rights for the region", that wold be done under the auspices of the NHL itself.

So money had already been invested.

Also Seattle just lost out on getting their NBA team back... I think they are starving for a new team.

But just where in QC will they play? How would that kill the new divisions? I think he is just creating a diversion to keep Seattle financially motivated or just make it look like the NHL, as an organization, is in demand and in power.

That thing about KeyArena already being accounted for for hockey seems to be it, can't think of what else it would be. Personally I would love to see a Seattle team, it's a great city and the way they lost the NBA team was an utter crime

I really don't know what Daly is playing at, I mean there's no possible way they haven't closed the deal by now with whoever will have the Coyotes. Some are speculating QC and one other city (Hamilton?) are being saved for expansion.

I'll weigh in as a fellow Blues fan........Letang is certainly superior offensively, but not by a massive amount, especially when you take into account the other weapons of Pittsburgh. Both of them suck defensively, Letang more than Shattenkirk, but I'm trying not to let Letang's brutal defense in the playoffs distort my opinion. Letang has always been one of my favorites to watch.........but given the difference in money, I would take Shattenkirk all day long.

Hey I don't hate the skill of the player but doesn't mean I have to like or respect that player. I like everything thing about stamkos even though he plays for my teams biggest rival. I respect him and other super stars like him. Crosby I have no respect other then his skill.
- Crazycaboose

Why? What has Crosby done that ANY hockey fan would have nothing but respect for? A whiner? That claim is a joke, brought on by jealous fans from Philly, NYR and other rival cities. Oh I forgot, he's committed all those crimes and is a total degenerate, right? NO HE'S NOT!!! He is nothing but an upstanding, well mannered member of any community he graces his presence with. He IS the face of this league for a reason. All you Sidney Crosby haters are pathetic! Get a freaking life!
