Vanek had 27 points in 21 games with Hodge to begin the year.
Hodge had 17 points in that 21 games.

Vanek missed 2 games.
Hodge had 2 points in those 2 games.

Vanek returns for 8 games and has 6 points
Hodge in those 8 games has 9 points.

Vanek misses 1 game.
Hodge has 3 points in that game.

Vanek misses 6 games.
Hodge has 2 points in those 6 games.

In the final 9 games together..
Vanek has 8 points.
Hodge has 4 points.

Hodge scored 7 points in 10 games without Vanek. (.7 PPG)
Hodge scored 29 points in 38 games with Vanek. (.763 PPG)

I don't think that is enough of a difference to say that he "disappeared" without Vanek on his wing..

Hodge is a f'n boss for years to come.

Thank u for doing that research
Drives me crazy when ppl say Hodgson wasn't good w/out Vanek
Also, Hodgson works hard in the offseason w Gary Roberts... He's only gonna keep getting better!

That should be enough data for people to stop talking about moving Hodgson. Thanks.
- RynoBull

Too me it's more about the contract than his production. Give me more than one season of this production and during an 82 game season and I would be all for paying him. As long as he doesn't pull the prima donna stuff he pulled in Vancouver

But it is even more ammunition to say that moving Vanek wouldn't effect Hodgson.

he played just fine without him and his soft-a$$ 7.1M cap hit.

- JVince11

Possibly. I still find it funny that people rag on him for that contract.

I actually had missed something... and went back and changed it...

Hodge was .7 PPG without Vanek and .763 PPG with Vanek.

You have Coho scoring 36 points, your math is off somewhere.

Working out with Roberts does nothing to make him better. It makes him stronger.

He still has an awkward skating stride, he still has almost no top end speed, and hes absolutely awful in the defensive zone.

Working out with Gary Roberts in the offseason are not going to fix those issues.

I could care less about the contract. As long as we win and he is productive. People love getting caught up in that stuff.

Who else fits that cup winning veteran center that can handle tough minutes that may be available? Or, are you willing to give that role to the youngsters (Girgensons or Larsson)?
- theblueandgold

Cup winning makes it harder. Vet center that can do tough minutes in a 3rd line role are not usually hard to come by, however.

And yeah, I think you're balancing bringing him in vs giving time to a guy like Tropp or (as a stretch) Grigorenko, Girgensons, Larssonn, etc.

Quinn and co added 8 mil on that deal when they opened their big mouths and said "we'll match any offer he gets".

Tavares, Stamkos, Duchene, Gagner...all - players last year. Same as Hodgson. I think he will be ok.

We haven't won. I dont need a bad contract (if he falls off) on the books. Everyone is so quick to throw money at the young guys and as history proves anything is it tends to not work out. I think a bridge deal is in order here. 2 years 5 million and go from there

He refused to come to an agreement with the Sabres, and then signed an offer sheet from another team. He was gone. He was going to be leaving Buffalo.

Yeah, hes equally to blame for that contract.

I think the idea of a #1 center is overblown. Just look at the Bruins. Kreci - Best offensive C, Seguin - Most talented, Bergeron - Good all around. Obviously Bergeron is the #1 C in Boston. All I'm saying is, Cody is not a guy that can play in all situations, but I think he's got enough juice to center a team's top scoring line. Just don't ask him to back check. Personally, I'd be OK with trading him if the return was really good. I'd prefer a team full of guys that are committed to playing in all three zones.

Vanek should have turned down the guaranteed money because he hadn't earned it yet..

He doesn't just lift weights w Roberts...
A good amount of the time they're together is spent on ice
The guy took a big jump in improving offensively, scoring career high in points in the short season
His skating did improve a lot last offseason bc that was a focus
I expect defensive zone will be this yrar

Hodgson scored 7 points in 9 games without Vanek in the lineup. 5 points came in 2 games though and he was scoreless in 5 of them.

27 points in 38 games with Vanek in the lineup.

I knew there was a mistake and I thought I fixed it but now I am 100% that these are right...

Vanek missed 10 games last season and Hodge missed 0 games.

In the 10 games that Vanek missed Hodge scored = 7 points.

38 games with Vanek; Hodge had a .71 PPG
10 games without Vanek, Hodge had a .70 PPG

Makes no difference to me if Hodge has Vanek on his wing or not.

Yet
He'll at least be a very good #2
Has potential to be a ppg player
And I think he'll get much better defensively

Grigorenko will be good also

And we're gonna suck for the next two years,
So in 2015 we can draft McDavid... Who is actually worthy of the "Crosby" comparisons, or at least a lot more fitting than MacKinnon
