I went back and watched the Beyond Blue & Golds...

man I really like a lot of our players...

I didn't remember that Kaleta did the rookie SEALs training.. that was completely voluntary of him. Hodgson and Foligno were borderline.

Watching the blurps about Ott and Weber too... I don't want to see them guys go.

I found it interesting that Darcy mentioned that Grigo was their #1 target for the draft last season and that he was offered 5th overall and 35th for our 12th and 21st overall. Who was 5th overall last year?

- JVince11

Morgan Rielly was at 5 and Matt Finn was at 35.

You know I love all you guys but boy, we need less jam band fluff in here, and more metal.

Define long term? More than 3 years is long term in my eyes and if he gets a 4 year 16 million deal it seems like too much in my eyes. However it could turn out to be a great deal. I just don't see him producing again like he did this year without Vanek and Pommer
- Stripes77

The good news is he will still have Vanek to dish the puck to. Anything between 3 and 4 would be fine. If his production keep treding northward, it will be a steal of a contract.

Eventually, he will have guys of their level on his wing again. Think about Horton and Armia in 2 yrs.
- benny948

Horton is not and will never be a Vanek like producer. Armia maybe be a Pommer type though

He was on pace for like 65 points this past season. He did benefit from playing with Pommer for half the year and Vanek for the first 11 games.. then Vanek went MIA...

I say that Hodgson needs a bridge deal of like 3.5M for 3 years.

- JVince11

Hodgson vanished without Vanek on his wing. Vanek vanished without Hodgie on his wing. You can thank Lindy for that

Reilly.. isn't he TML?

So we had a proposed trade offer from Burke?

You don't take a dman at 8th overall... and even if we did... I'd take Risto over Nurse.
- JVince11

Plenty of good defensemen are taken in the top 8. I could listen to the Ristolinen over Nurse idea, but I would be ok with either assuming Monahan and Lindholm are both off the board.

If that is who they want IMO you could move back with Dallas, get 10, 29, and draft him there.

not at 8th overall...

that is bad news written all over it.

- JVince11

Totally disagree. He's the kind of guy that you can build a Defense around. Tough, territorial, hard working and smart.

How does Lindy get the blame for that? Injuries got the blame for that. Then Rolston shuffled lines around

Would have had the 5, 35, 42, 44 instead of 12, 14, 44

Probably would have went with Grigorenko at 5 anyway. Then still got McCabe, and we dont really know who was on the Sabres board, but I'd hope Frk wouldve been one of them.

Vanek had 27 points in 21 games with Hodge to begin the year.
Hodge had 17 points in that 21 games.

Vanek missed 2 games.
Hodge had 2 points in those 2 games.

Vanek returns for 8 games and has 6 points
Hodge in those 8 games has 9 points.

Vanek misses 1 game.
Hodge has 3 points in that game.

Vanek misses 6 games.
Hodge has 2 points in those 6 games.

In the final 9 games together..
Vanek has 8 points.
Hodge has 4 points.

Hodge scored 7 points in 10 games without Vanek. (.7 PPG)
Hodge scored 29 points in 38 games with Vanek. (.763 PPG)

I don't think that is enough of a difference to say that he "disappeared" without Vanek on his wing..

Hodge is a f'n boss for years to come.

No Girgenson then. He is going to play a big part of if that draft was successful or not

Grigs, Finn, McCabe, Frk would be my guess.

It's a good breakdown. But I wouldn't call him a boss till he becomes at least so so in his own zone. I'd take that of the god awful he is now

Um, no.

Metal us what you listen to when you're 15.

Jam bands = music
Metal = noise

- Pairo11

Metal has no age barriers. It's part of who I am and always will be.

Jam bands are just something I will never understand. Does nothing for me.

All good of course - different strokes for different folks.

That should be enough data for people to stop talking about moving Hodgson. Thanks.

I actually had missed something... and went back and changed it...

Hodge was .7 PPG without Vanek and .763 PPG with Vanek.

But it is even more ammunition to say that moving Vanek wouldn't effect Hodgson.

he played just fine without him and his soft-a$$ 7.1M cap hit.
