Holy Cr@p I was thinking the same thing.

I have read these comments for weeks and it seems like every time offers a trade everyone one is like no way. No matter who it is or who it is for.

As per @RealKyper report, #Isles indeed interested in Luongo-DP swap. Only that deal though, so VAN may look elsewhere for asset in return

All of you are smarter in these types of things than me but what is the logic of the Islanders bringing in a bigger contract with a longer term...

- kear20

because they have NO intention of buying out DP, so if they are going to pay that amount, they might as well get a starting goaltender that is top 15 in this league & can play.

Even if it meant to make your team better? IS this not what every team fans and or General Manager want to do???

I wasn't really being serious..I was giving you a typical Garth response.

Remember the Ryan Smyth trade?? O'marra was a huge prospect at the time and look at what happened to him
- kasperrko

I don't think O'Mara was a huge prospect at all. He was another one in the long list of 'character' players we had drafted. It seemed like we were busy trying to draft nice guys during that era rather than players. O'Mara was seen as a second line player who happened to be a great lockeroom guy and potential Captain. Of course he was a Milbury pick I believe which Snow was more than happy to dump.

because we arent a couple pieces away, we still need ATLEAST 2 solid NHL D-men, an NHL Goalie & a top line Wing (I think we could use 2 honestly)

Making a trade for one of them wont fix this team, But we MAY have them in our system.
Strome/Nino/Kabanov/Petrov could be the 1st line players we need.
Reinhart/Donovan/Mayfield/amongst others, are in the pipe on D.
And we know the Goalie situation Nilsson/Poulin/Koskinen

Most of these guys are within 2 years from the big team.. 2 years!!!

Free agents/ waiver pick ups.. stay the course.

XxNYIxX

- XxNYIxX

I said that on the previous page. We need a wing for JT , a 2nd line a "D" and a goalie. Go back and check if you wish.

All the guys you name are fine prospects but that doesnt mean they will all make good NHL players.

When will you realize Petrov playing for the isles is a pipe dream and if 1/2 of our prospects reach their potential Snow hit a Grand Slam in the draft. Nothing wrong with moving this along by bringing in a Bobby Ryan, a Vinny, or some other talent.

I realize your content to sit & wait while guys like Rolston, Reasonor Pandolfo Acoin, Joensue and the like are signed every year but some of us believe the process can be accelerated with out doing harm to the rebuild and the prospect pool by bringing in some high end talent.

Your way is what? 6 yrs into the rebuild? 5 yrs? And yet by your own admission. Were a 1/4 of a starting line up away from being a contending PO team.

The time is now to make some additional moves.

Maybe Luongo is the 1 season stop gap, trade them DP, use Lou this season & then buy him out next season!

Ohh wait... even better... Once Vanc buys out DP, we can sign him as a free agent !!

you know.. for depth!!

I am just saying that if something comes along and they want lets say Dehaan and Lee or something like that I believe you do it. Dehaan I believe they can trade no problem. Even Nelson I would dangle out there. To make your team better most general managers will do whatever it takes and sometimes it is letting go of a player that you really don't want to

Vinny would be a FA pick up
Ryan would be a find player but to give up that much of the future for 2 seasons?? Id rather not.

You will get the top line winger for JT. a really awesome goalie, and free a spot on the roster for a prospect. I like it very much

I don't know man, you and Kasper are pretty good at setting up strawmen and knocking them down today. Neither of you has proposed a single deal, but you've invented arguments none of us are making and are saying we refuse to make deals even as we're proposing them.

I had proposed SEVERAL trades in the past, where I was told that we can't possibly trade Niederreiter, or Reinhart, or the draft pick, or anyone else, seemingly for anyone short of Sidney Crosby. I'm sorry, but as I said before, if (for example) a Shea Weber comes available at the draft, I'm not going to cry over trading any of that for him, and I don't care about an $8M cap hit on a team that is $10M under the cap FLOOR at this point. Shea Weber, along with (again, for example) the FA signing of a Mike Smith/other solid goalie, and a Horton/other offensive star who might become available would move this team AT LEAST 10 spots up the food chain in literally TWO WEEKS time.

I'd really like to hold on to Strome, but other than that (in fact, even including that- I'd just be slightly more concerned), I'm not going to be upset if they do anything that SIGNIFICANTLY improves this team, regardless of the cost. I'll say it again: SIGNIFICANTLY. Not Roman Hamrlik, Alexei Yashin, Jason Blake, and anyone else who doesn't mind watching the Finals on TV, as long as he gets paid. But for a top end player, no problem.

Well, I highly doubt anyone here shot down a proposal of Nino and Reinhart for Weber, unless it was to point out the simple fact that you're not getting Weber for Nino and Reinhart...

Whelp...sorry but I was one who was against the idea. Not so much because of what we'd give up (though I love Reinhart ) but because I think Webber's contract is one of the worst in hockey (thanks Flyers).
He's making $14 million this year! He's signed through 2026. I'm just not interested in seeing anyone costing us $8 million on the cap at age 41. The guy's great and an absolute beast, but the idea of paying him $70 million over the next 6 years alone is staggering. You end up sacrificing other spots on the team for that.
Weber puts up about 45-50 points per year and actually finished with a sub +/- thisyear. I'm not saying he's not great...he is..but I'm not interested in a contract like that if I want a true contender. Nashville will struggle for years because of that contract.
