not to many players in the league I wouldn't take Toews over. In fact there's only 2, and they both play on the same (frank)ing team
- Big_Lightnin

Haha true From the start, I just mean that I would take Letang over Kessel, and thats not meant as an attack on kessel, more a compliment of Letang's abilities

So your going to use one game as a arguement for Phaneuf>Franson? How about the fact Boston's first line made Phaneuf look like a peewee defenceman and Bostons 2nd line was no where to be seen?
- JasonDM

How about Bostons bottom 6 make Franson look like a timbits hockey player?

Your proving his point. Fraser played way less mins then Phaneuf and still got more blocks.
- JasonDM

He asked if anyone had ever seen Dion block a shot. The only dman with more blocks than his was Fraser.

Last year he had more blocks than Schenn - Luke Schenn who specializes in blocking shots for (frank)s sake!

I love how when people decide they hate a guy, they forget how to actually watch hockey and just hate him.

If you are speaking about 2011-2012:
Luke Schenn 115 blocked shots, Phaneuf 127.
But Phaneuf had on average 9minutes more playing time than Schenn.

So your argument does not hold up.

Thanks,
And Fraser can fight too.
Dion fight?
I know we're comparing two different styles of D men, but I'd rather have had Fraser on the ice over Phaneuf in the collapse in Boston.

Do you watch the Leafs? Franson & Fraser/Gardiner were up against the 2nd line the whole series and the 2nd line did nothing. The first line did all the damage against the Leafs.

Schenn 102 blocked shots, Phaneuf 91 blocked shots.
Schenn less then 22mins average ice time, Phaneuf over 25minutes.

- MaximusAurelius

expect Dion to block a lot of shots on the PP did ya?

and by last year I meant 2011-2012, when Schenn was still with Leafs.

but again, point was these are guys who block a ton of shots, and Dion's blocking as many or more. Sure more minutes, but he's also playing way more PP and offensive starts than they are too.

No, I'm giving you a specific example from one game that stands out.

If you like, we could go through the litany of stats that prove my case, too. I just assumed you had access to Google, though.

For the record, Franson was on the ice for 3 of Boston's goals in game 7, including the winner.

Coming from the guy who says Franson>>>Phaneuf, I think I should be asking you this question..

What argument?

The assertion was that Phaneuf doesn't block shots. He does.

sure it does. 3:33 of his minutes were on the PP. probably 1/3 to 1/2 his starts are offensive zone faceoffs.

and again, blocks are blocks.

guy said he never blocks shots. Numbers clearly state the guy has his head up his ass

I think they play a similar style beside the hard hitting rough side of phaneuf

Please read.
The argument was that Phaneuf blocked more shots than Schenn.
That's quite logical with over 9mins of extra time.

And pay him what? 8 9 10M? (frank) that poop, would rather sign a forwardbmaking 80-100 pts than that loser

That's not where the discussion started.

The point was only to use Schenn for comparative purposes.

The difference right now is that Franson keeps getting better while Dion is what he is, I'm not sure I'de want Franson playing 30 mins a game but taking a few of dions minutes might be a good thing.

Leafs should sign Ferrence. Why trade for a top 4 Dman when there's on in free agency?

He's a carlyle type guy, too.

Franson is developing into a player similar to Phaneuf, with a tad bit more finesse with his shots and offensive game. And he doesn't hit like a freight train.

Still think we need a true shutdown guy. But who?

at 7 per 3 years maybe, but he wants big money, he isn't worth that much I'de say. I'de Rather Dion at 6.8 than Letang at 8 that's for sure.

To which then i gave you 7 straight games of proof. Reimer had to bail out Phaneuf and Gunnarsson a bunch of times, especially in games 5 & 6. Stats? Anyone who uses just stats to make an argument is a fool. I could score 100 goals in a season by having the puck tipped in off my butt every time but does that make me a good player? NO
