Toronto goaltender James Reimer previously admitted that the Maple Leafs’ decision to bring in another promising young netminder in Jonathan Bernier made him feel “doubted.”
Now it sounds like he just feels determined.
“I don’t plan on giving up the net,” Reimer told TSN.ca. “I don’t plan on giving up that starters’ spot right now, not to be a jerk about it obviously.”
Reimer’s had some time to step back and reflect on what this means and thinks this new challenge will make him a better goaltender.
“I’m sure Bernier’s coming in wanting nothing but that starting job,” Reimer said.
That’s a safe bet. Bernier was stuck behind Jonathan Quick in Los Angeles and now he has a real opportunity to prove that he’s capable of serving as a number one goaltender.
“I was pretty miserable in L.A.,” Bernier told 590 the Fan, according to the Toronto Sun. “It was really hard. I play hockey to play games, not only practice.” |

While I agree he's not a saviour type player, and you can make valid arguments against him wearing the C. he's a good defensman.
He played with AHLers for most of the season and carried them. If he had a decent partner to take some of the pressure off him it would be a different story.
The Keith/Seabrook comment earlier was great. If Phaneuf played with Keith, he'd be as effective as seabrook in my opinion. and i think we can all agree seabrook is pretty good
the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Theres not a whole lot of dman i would trade straight up for phaneuf.
If its about contract, and him wanting a raise, or walking and we get nothing in return. then that's a different story - dragus84
If you ask me I'd be more inclined to say that the play of Seabrook allows Keith to do his thing. If you gave me the option of Seabrook or Keith.. I'd take Seabrook... why he doesn't wear an "A" in Chicago beats the hell out of me and Don Cherry. I love Seabrook and when Chicago drafted him in the first round many years ago I knew they had a STUD!

This has the makings of working out well like when Potvin was the starter and they signed Cujo, yeah that went well for both in a Leaf jersey. |
