I sometimes get carreid away hating on Dion as well. But i'm not delusional enough to think this team has the defensive responsibility in other players that we can afford to lose Dion.

Letang doesn't help this team too much in the defense department, and offensively we don't need improvement on the blue line.

If anything we have too much offense in the back end with Franson Gardiner Liles, Phaneuf and Reilly a year away.

You would pay Letang over 8mil+? That would be a nice new contract for everyone to complain about.

Absolutely do not need a PMD specialist like Letang at over 8million bucks. While it helps the offense and breakout. it would be a crippling contract and not in an area we need to improve at right now.

Not saying gardiner or rielly are guaranteed to fill his shoes, but we definitely have the potential to fill a role like letang within the system at a very discounted rate. plus we wouldn't be giving up one of them, plus kuli and a 1st.

I admit, I don't miss Schenn right now, probably because I'm in love with Gardiner and Franson. And I do like JVR a lot. I do want a d-man like Schenn in this lineup though, but I think we can get that via trade or the draft, so its moot. Besides, Fraser was just fine as the Schenn fill-in.

Letang is the better player and younger you take the better player regardless of what's in the system.

1.) I don't see a big raise in Phaneuf's future, if anything I'd like to see his cap hit come down.

2.) Just looking to nab up the best players available with no regard to team chemistry is a terrible idea, just ask the pre-lockout rangers or present day oilers

Is he solid defensively? That you could rely on him to shut down other teams top guys night in and night out?

obviously pitt has problems doing so because it wasn't their offense that was the problem.

Last I checked...the Kessel trade actually hasn't been anywhere close as bad as you anti-leafs fans want it to be. That Seguin was a real force in these playoffs, as was Hamilton.
