As of today, yes.
You could never get a guy performing like Kessel the last couple years, at Kessel's age, for a forward performing like Seguin and a prospect Dman and a 2nd rounder we haven't heard from in a couple years.
So far... the Leafs win that trade HUGE.
The problem is that Seguin still has a huge upside and so does Hamilton. The arguements against this trade have always been based on the potential we gave up.
I believe, long term, neither Seguin or Hamilton will be nearly the impact player Kessel is, but that is only a homer prediction. - Aetherial
God bless you. And there is nothing wrong with it either. |

Yikes. - hscesq
What's to say "yikes" about??
Do you want to take a look at what Kessel has done vs. Seguin/Hamilton to date?
I think going into this season, Kessel was 4th or 6th overall in NHL points during the 2 previous seasons combined. This year he was 8th.
Even a Leaf hater can't deny how good Kessel has been (not just goal scorer but playmaker and even played well defensively this year) - and still only 25yrs old!!!!

I believe that was John Shannon who said that, no?
What was the general consensus of the Bernier trade round here parts? and the trades the Canucks fans truly believed would happen. - systemtool
I actually said that I liked the Bernier trade because it finally meant there was next to zero chance I would have to worry about Luongo coming here.
I don't mind the Bernier trade. We gave up a decent return, but ultimately, I don't think we gave up so much that it looks like a terrible deal 5 years from now. Getting another young goalie with a lot of upside is not a bad idea.

My almost 7 year old is only now getting over his obsession with Ariel. At least he has good taste.
Although, the woman playing Princess Jasmine at Disney World was MAJOR hot.

We'll take Gagner for Gunnarsson and a 1st, and thats actually fair. Draft Nurse, and Sam Morin. Boom you guys are set. - Rysko81
no thanks on Gagne, everything everyone rips Bozak for is Gagne. ... who's never played real first line minutes, never played in a defensive scheme ... need I go on
Gagne - same size or smaller than Bozak, he just looks muscular next to RNH
Gagne - playing with good offensive players - still not putting up great point totals (take away the one game last season where he got 6 points or whatever - what were his totals)
Gagne - faceoff guy? not sure about that one
Gagne - defensive stalwart
acquiring Gagne does nothing for the Leafs.

I think Frattin is going to haunt us, and im worried about having a Luong/Schneider esque issue down the road, but its good to have to competent and young goalies going forward. Im worried Bernier is all hype, but time will tell. |

I believe if you look at Seguin's first 3 years vs. Kessel's, that Seguin comes out ahead. I have also read that Seguin plays a better 2-way game... although I really don't know if thaht is true. Also, a 2-way game is largely the result of what a coach holds you accountable for. Let's face it, until last year, Boston was much more focussed on both ends of the ice than Toronto.
