Other top guys also play with... other top guys.

Can we put Shea Weber with Kostka/Holzer and see how he does?

- jbold

No, but i would argue that top guys can make others better, which for all intents and purposes, he hasn't. Gunner might actually help him more than the other way around.

gardiner nor reilly are proven...give me the real deal any day. top 10 d-man in the league, playoff fail or not, hmm..30 teams, top 10..let me think about that one...yeah, in heartbeat for gardiner, reilly, or both, plus the 1st and kulemin likely (as much as i'd hate that part) All these can't play D arguments are coming from a small 1 year playoff sample. Calm the **** down people; players have streaks. Dude is a career PLUS FORTY-TWO. for those of you who don't recall, plus minus doesn't include pp, sh, or pk.

EDIT: OH AND WHAT'S THAT? HE'S A CAREER PLUS TWO IN THE PLAYOFFS IN 80 GAMES? 0.o....sounds like a terrible d-man to me

- jerseyleaf

is this serious? youd offer gardiner, reilly, the first, and kulemin? jesus christ where can the pens sign? and then proceed to do cartwheels

Can you learn the (frank)ing difference between You're, your, there, their and they're?

Does it matter that much to you?

Richards I'm not sold, although he's certainly capable of Bozaks ability, but then Boxaks so much younger. Vinny brings the size, he's tough enough, and feeding KEssel would get him going again I'm sure. At that point though, gotta move grabs out, no offence to the guy but, his lack of points already shows he doesn't matter much as it is as the team still bags goals.
- aminnes

Although you're probably right, I love Grabo....supported him from the minute he came here til he finally blossomed. I know he had a bad half-year, but if we don't end up getting that high-priced centre we need, I think he deserves another shot to atone. I'm sure he'll bounce back.

Both Vinny and Richards bring that veteran Playoff leadership and experience that we so obviously need. They both have won Cups and Richards was the Conn Smythe winner....he's still capable of putting up 60+ points, especially with Kessel on his wing.

It was a joke partially. Their are times when i wish he was on the 2nd PP.
- JasonDM

Honestly be okay with that. IF (big if) Franson can keep up what he did last year, him and Gards would be a perfect #1 PP unit

Van Riemsdyk - Lecavalier - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
McClement - Colborne - Clutterbuck/Kulemin
Lapierre - Boyd - Orr
Mclaren/D'Amigo/Ashton

Phaneuf - Scudari
Ferrence - Franson
Gardiner - Fraser
Ranger/Holzer

Reimer/Bernier

- Viktory

I like the ideas on D, I'd change the forwards a bit tho.

I think he can too but when he has a crap year and they still put up big offense as a team then he becomes redundant. Put the 5 mill into the D. He'll be great but the LEafs proved they don't really need him.

We have issues with Pha9 defensive play and you want to pair him with another offensive minded Dman.. Now we really need to bring the great wall of China to play goalie!
- TML4Life85

I dont see Letang terrible defensively, he makes smart decisions in his own end.

But, a lot of people disagree.

Whatever, I guess. I cant be bothered arguing about it

Then Letang gets here and we remember that we can't afford to give him 8 per year.

I gotta get up at 5:30 tomorrow to plant trees so you guy can have your coffee tables, toilet paper and toothpicks. Agree to disagree.

Also it's nice to be back on here after a brief break.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I am not disagreeing with you that Letang has upside but look at what he wants and who he plays with. I haven't been here for a while either, it sure feels good to talk to you all. Time to hit the sack!

If we get a number 1 C. Grabo NEEDS to go.

5.5 for a third line C? No thank you.

Apparently Chicago is shopping Bolland so they can try to get a 2nd line C.

Maybe talk to them about a Grabo Bolland swap? Long shot, but its worth a try

He's seen the same way Phaneuf is. Capable, but expected to be the offensive threat. Put the two together, and you'd probably get surprising results.

As for Letang.

I love the guy. Think him and DIon would be great together.

I've watched him quite a bit. He's not as bad in the defensive zone as everyone says he is.

He's smart, and is a great puck mover.

I'd give him that money.

And his hair...omg.

- jbold

I agree with the talent, but you can't have almost $14 million locked up in two defensemen...

Put them together, and you've got one great pairing.

Letang makes smart plays, but he can't take the abuse. And he's kind of like Phaneuf in that he doesn't have great support.

There plus the pinching in the offensive zone will create too much 2-0!

He plays with Orpik.

Orpik is good, but he;s out of position a lot because he's overly phyiscal. Letang covers up for him quite a bit.

That's why I think he'd be good with Dion.

This means Pha9 becomes D-Dman to let Letand roam around. You can't have both do the same thing as a pair!

There are maybe 8 true number 1 defenders in the league:

Chara
Suter
Pietrangelo
Doughty
Weber
Keith
Karlsson
OEL

- Viktory

One of these things is not like the others. At least not yet.

And stop with the Colborne as our 3rd line C talk....he's useless.
