the pens would want a roster player, similar to the Staal trade (Sutter in that case) in that deal along with the oilers first rounder. Teubert is a good guy to throw in, but id see the deal looking more like this:
Oilers 1st rounder
Paavarji
Whitney
Other draft pick
For
Letang
Sadly i dont even think that is enough to get Letang, although you can only hope. I see him going to the Leafs (who are preferred by Letang and have enough d-man talent to make the deal) but even that may be a stretch. - daxterm
Are Whitney's rights worth anything in a trade? |

Whitney's a UFA. And he's so broken, I'd honestly consider Klefbom to be a better trading chip right now. |

Pens have to throw in a 1st and we'll talk. Also I believe that the cap no longer applies to Vancouver so we can take Crosby off of their hands as well. - Nucker101

God, I highly doubt it. |

As much as I would love a player of Letang's caliber on the back end to start the season, I doubt management is willing to give up the amount of assets that would be necessary to get a Letang. Pittsburgh would want a bounty for him, definitely more than what they acquired in the J. Staal trade. I would think a mix of; the 7th, Paajarvi, Rajala, a D prospect, (Klefbom, Marincin maybe) or just Eberle straight up. Not saying Eberle for Letang is a trade we should consider or anything, but that's probably where Pittsburgh would want to start. |

I think what everyone is missing here is that any trade for Letang is going to include a defenseman. Again I don't think a trade will happen but if it does someone will overpay.
Eberle and Schultz would be more realistic than these offers. |

Whitney is a ufa and will be lucky to play in the NHL next year.

I really like you. I totally agree. Letang would fit in Van Phi or Tor, much better.
That being said, I think of those 2, Phi and (possibly) Tor have the prospect depth and cap space to make that happen. - JShack
I think he'd ruin our cap, and we'd have no money for a shutdown d. Offensive d-men aren't our problem, have a defensive guy that can take some of the even strength minutes from Phaneuf is.....Phaneuf is solid on the PK, but he shouldn't be playing more than 24 minutes. The more minutes he plays, the more fatigued he gets, the more brain cramps. |

Plan and simple...
Letang is over rated (but good) not worth 7.5 and not worth all the assets mentioned in this blog!

I think any deal would hinge on him signing an extension, too much to give up for one year IMO |

While I agree someones gonna overpay, I dont think Edmonton would want to give up two up and coming stars for Letang (No knock on letang of course). The pens have tons of d-prospects, so if you want to go into the "untouchables" then eberle is more likely over j schultz |

Massive overpayment, 3 legit prospects for a defenceman who's been riding the coat tails of Malkin and Crosby for years. Oilers aren't pulling the trigger on any major deals but will on lots of small ones, book it! |

We don't need another C. If I'm Shero I ask for Eberle as a starting point, and the two GM's go from there - matt1396

Him and Karlsson are in a league of their own... 2 best skaters on defense with Karlsson getting the edge on offense but Letang plays better defense and more physical. |

Phaneufs best years were when he playing with Regher in his prime pairing him with aguy like that would really solidify your D. I agree Phaneuf is a great defenseman when he can focus more on offense

It was Hamrlik....a smart steady d-man. I know he wasn't the greatest ever in Edmonton (wasn't a good team in general) but hamrlik had a long career being mr. dependable. |

Look at it this way guys...who is the better D-man and deserves 7.5 Million+...Shea Weber/Drew Doughty OR Kris Letang??? Did anyone watch him in the Boston series....he played average at best when it mattered |

The first and Paajarvi would be more than enough. Why throw in Klefbom? That would be a total overpayment. We are talking about Letang, not Crosby.....right? |

Letangs agent said on sports net that Letang has no interest in the leafs.
Don't know whether he's making it up or the first report in false. - Bieksa#3
Assuming Oliver Ekman-Larsson is the same price tag as Letang, wouldn't we rather have him? I think I would. |
