It was Hamrlik....a smart steady d-man. I know he wasn't the greatest ever in Edmonton (wasn't a good team in general) but hamrlik had a long career being mr. dependable.
- mykokes

Hamr was a good Oiler for a few years there. Our highest point producer anyway. He just got old and a bit injured so we shipped him off for a 20 yo Eric Brewer!

IDK man.. Shultz is good, and has proven he can hang with the NHL guys.. But i think the hype has died down considerably. Would i like to see him in blue and white? Absolutley! But not nearly as much as id like to see Letang.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

I still think Letang is bad defensively, he'd be a good fit on Toronto though. Bad for Edmonton.

Actually what Bob Mac said was he expects MacT to TRY to move the pick for immediate help. That said he didn't know what actually might be doable or available. Which is the part that everyone seems to forget. Many Teams are looking for top pairing Dmen. Teams that have them - legit guys - not just guys posing as top pairing guys, are not letting them go. They lock them up and keep them unless there is something wrong with them (ie. attitude etc). We ALL would like to see MacT do a deal for a top pairing D guy. Chances of it happening are extremely slim.
- Iggysbff

Agreed.

I doubt his routine has changed much. MacT already said that no offer for the 7th was even close to what he was looking for. I don't know that him looking for deals will mean him lowering his standards a bit.

Kessel. But the other part of that deal swings it the other way for me.
- mykokes

Ya, all Hamilton has to o is be a solid top 4 dman, (which looks like its in the cards) while seguin fights for ice in boston's top six and produce. Then we lose the trade. But Kessel ahs been a star player and for the four years we've had him, we've"won" the trade as he has obviously made a bigger impact the picks we gave up. That is to be expected though as thats the way it usually works with draft picks..

Could you imagine though if we had actually performed as expected that year and fought for a playoff spot both years?
Say finishing 8-14 last in 2010 and 12-16 in 2011.
2010 we're giving up one of the following:
Burmistrov
Granlund
McIlrath
Campell
Fowler
Gormely
Schwartz plus a early to mid second rounder

Then in 2011 we would be giving up one of:
Murphy
Baertschi
Oleksiek
Miller
Armia

Burke just misjudged where the team was at. We really tanked that year after what we thought we were getting a first line forward (kessel), two top 4 dman (Beachimen and komisarek),a full year of newly aquired dion phaneuf and a top young goalie (The monster) to challenge as a starter.
There was optimisim and we really should have improved on the 7th last finish from the year before. Can see what Burke was thinking though.

Nah, maybe yak. Hall maybe a hart. Just plays with such fire and intensity and is the engine the oilers run off of.

Hall > Seguin

Not a huge gap though. Seguin could close it. Seguin has played wing for the last 3 years, can he still be the top centre he was billed to be? I haven't seen him take faceoffs consistently in his time with the bruins.

Considering our population size, its pretty good.

Edmonton and surrounding area also listed as number 2 for (Quality of life) places live in Canada, behind only Calgary. There's a lot of money here. You're ignorant and completely out to lunch.

Honestly, I think Kessel is a pretty good forward, no denying that. But he is so one-dimensional. Where Tyler Seguin has just completed his third season, and is being eased in to the NHL slowly. I feel the upside on Seguin as a multi-dimensional player will pay off over the next few seasons, as he's given more & more opportunity. He'll be a good two-way forward. If I were to choose either, I'd take Seguin, no question.
- Sammy Van Hagar

I agree that Seguin is developing into a more complete player. Kessel now backchecks, was mildly surprised by his effort this season, but will never be considered a great defensive forward. Seguin looks like he will be a solid two way player, but will he be a bergeron or more of a peverly (When peverly actually scored, like in Atlanta)
If its the latter, i take Kessel hands down obviously. Even so, if i had to chose between them today, i would chose kessel. top line forwards are hard to come by.
Seguin and hamilton together? Different story.

I think he is stuck behind the depth of the bruins. If he was picked by edmonton, i think he would be getting top line minutes and excelling. Like he did his sophomere year with boston.

Well.. I live in Red Deer and im from Ontario.. One thing i can say for certain is that Alberta as a whole is an awful place to live. The people out here are far to concerned with working, oil runs EVERYTHING. Sure theres money, but at what cost? Albertans are by far the stupidest and most arrogant Canadians. Where have you been? Ive been to every province and lived in half of them. Check yo self before you wreck yo self fool.

Not that this isn't riveting and all, but to change the subject a bit, here's a quote on monahan that doesn't exactly give a gleaming report on him.

David Burstyn, the director of scouting for McKeen’s Hockey-

I see Sean Monahan as being a good NHL centre. If he works on his skating, he could possibly crack the top six, but if his skating doesn’t improve you’ve got yourself a good third line or depth player, which maybe at the 10 spot might not be exactly what you’re looking for. If he does improve his skating he has the possibility of being a top-six guy.

Thoughts

- HouseArrest187

We heard similar things about other guys on their draft years. They said Eberle's skating was going to limit him. Guys can overcome their weaknesses with strengths in other areas. There are many great NHL guys that had knocks on their skating.
