Dude, the Falmes are probably in one of the worst positions in the league right now. Canucks might be on the decline, but they still have a ton of players with great value. Flames have very few IMO. I'm not a homer, but you gotta call it like it is and the Flames ownership being so involved really has (frank)ed them over.

There's a huge amount of work to do, and a star player to build around is needed.

But baertschi, gaudreau, seiloff, wotherspoon, Brodie, gillies, brossoit have helped remove the cupboards are bare broken record.

It's going to be a slow Minnesota like build.

Just saying, you guys are just as bare and your stars aren't at end of prime. Extensions send you down the hole flames went down... Hope you avoid it[/img]

Know what, I'm calling it right now. Cammi and O'Brien and our 22nd + maybe some other piece for the 5th (CAR) and McBain.

You're dreaming in technicolor if you think that's gonna happen! You'd be lucky to get McBain for that package, there's no way the 5th overall pick would be included.

Carolina is looking for defense, and by defense, I don't mean O'Brien.

Maybe Cammi, Gio or Wideman and our 22nd would do it.

finally back, power was restored to my area of the city last night and just in time, now I can comment on this trade.

I think its a pretty win win for both teams. Avs get some leadership in the room with Tanguay, basically replacing Hejduk as the long term Avalanche Elder. Get some cap stability next season with Duchene, Landeskog, and O'Reilly all being RFAs. I think Tanguay wiht a NMC probably forced this trade too, if you want to trade me, trade me back to the Avs so I can play for Roy and Sakic again. Our trading assets are pretty thin so Jones was the only real moveable piece.

Jones and O'Brien were great players 2 seasons ago, last season they blew sucked big time, but Jones is always streaky and O'Brien was on press box duty so he didnt even really get a chance to get his legs under him, i think he sat for the first 12 games as a healthy scratch.

If Jones can regain his scoring touch its a pretty good deal bw both teams, if he is still playing like a stone hands bum, which I think he will be motivated this season, but if he does, its a pretty bad trade

Posted this in other thread, these are my thoughts.

I think this trade works well for both teams needs.

Colorado: Gets some veteran leadership, and someone familiar with the city/organization, and a somewhat useful defenseman. (Couldn't crack the defensive lineup in Cal, but could in Colorado.)

Calgary: Got younger and bigger, which is what this rebuilding team needs. A guy who can put up points, used to live in Calgary. And a somewhat useful defenseman.

And the Flames take on 500,000 in cap hit. Pretty much a wash if you ask me.

Change of scenery for players. Jones will get more playing time here, than he would in Colorado, with all of the offensive talent they have.

If Colorado chooses Nathan Mackinnon, they will start to look a lot like the Oilers, plenty of young talent, not enough defense.

Just need to find another way to acquire it.

If you really think Mackinnon is better than Jones, you have to take him.

Fair enough. I love almost everyone bashing the Flames for the recent trade. Tangs didn't want to be here and the fact we didn't have to buy him itself is a win imo.

I didn't mind it. I said Tanguay wanted out and with Jones if he does get going you can get a 1st at the trade deadline for him.

People are so in love with Bickell, they should look at Jones and be prepared.

That is the same with Jones, we couldnt give him away last deadline, and he was most likely to be bought out next season if he didnt turn it around. Tanguay put you in the corner with probably only wanting to be moved to the Avs, we traded a bad dman for a bad dman and a problem forward for another problem forward. Dont see it being bad for either team, they get what they really want in the end

It's baffling that people think what Colorado is getting is veteran leadership. Sure he's older than everyone on the Avs and has a ring but I sure didn't see any leadership out of him as a Flame. What you get with Tanguay is an elite playmaker when he wants to play and a skating jockstrap when he doesn't. He's the last player I'd want mentoring young stars.

That being said he'll probably have a good year. He has a history of doing good things the first year with a new team before he loses interest and gets run out of town.

I also wonder why everyone hates Feaster. It's still to early to tell but I think he's done well at the draft and he's still trying to clean up Sutter's mess. He's tried to improve the team. He was in one Richards (hindsight is 20/20 but people would have been ecstatic if he had signed him), Hudler and Wideman were good signings. All the players people wanted him to trade years ago had no trade clauses and didn't want to be traded and the ownership didn't want to trade them. The O'Reilly thing could have been a disaster but there were a number of other GMs with offer sheets and the league still hadn't provided teams with a finalized version of the CBA. The owners have been behind him saying we need to win now and he's done everything he could to try and make that happen. I'm not saying he should be nominated for GM of the year but I don't see anything wrong with the way he's handled the situation dealt to him.

And the fact Jones is only 500K more with our cap situation works out as well. Lots of players have off years. If we can get 15/20 goals out of Jones I'll be happy.

Do you still think the Avs take MacKinnon?

I dont think Jones meshed well with our forwards either, he needs to be a top 6 player to be effecitve, and our forwards have pushed him down the depth chart too much to be useful.

I think they do, after all they have been talking to the media, if they dont, they will look like hypacrites. Unless we traded David Jones to make room for Seth Jones, cant have more than one on a team at a time.

I don't give a (frank) about losing Luongo for nothing, just getting out of that contract is great. Not his fault the new CBA chose to punish the smarter teams for exposing the old CBA.

(frank) the cupboards! I would just hate being a fan of a team with no realistic shot at the playoffs, it sounds depressing!
