Shouldn't the flames be going after prospects and picks? or is Feaster still trying to win the cup next year? - Sheppy99
I don't think Tanguay had very much value. Bad contract, declining player, and likely a malcontent as well. |

Talent goes to Colorado imo, but will end up being a wash by the terminus of everyone's contracts.
Contracts essentially a wash, or a 'who cares?'
And they got younger. Good deal for Calgary overall I think. - Morris
Actually Sob is signed a year longer than Sarich so the Avs save 2 mil the season after this one and another .5 each year from Jones. |

if Jones bounces back, which I'm not sure he will going to a less offensive team, CGY wins this trade. I'm not sure I like it for CGY.
I forget who, might have been dreger or pagnotta, said Cammalleri could be gone soon too - TheNugeIsHuge
It was Pagnotta. I take his rumors with a grain of salt but I can believe that one. |

Marginally. It's going to get worse.
If I had to bet on it, I say Colorado wins this trade in the long run but it's pretty well a wash. Likely that both players' deals will be dead weight still 2 years from now. - S Kaspar Rollins
really? I'd say Colorado wins now, but CGY may win in the long run. Jones a little younger. Could bounce back in the future. |

Ugh. I've been waiting for them to get rid of Sarich since they idiotically re-signed him but now they've just replaced him with someone just as useless and at the same price. Good thing the cap is the least of their worries right now. |

Tanguay has a better contract - TheNugeIsHuge
How? Both are 3 years remaining for similar money and Tanguay is an old 33 years old coming off knee surgery.
Losing Tanguay is addition by subtraction as he didn't want to be here, plus he would have got destroyed playing Anaheim, LA and San Jose all the time in the new division. |

Stastny/Duchene/Parenteau
Landeskog/O'Reilly/Downie
McGinn/MacKinnon/Tanguay
McLeod/Mitchell/Bordeleau
Something like this - Johannes19
Fourth line is mean and tough to play against.
Third line is decent with McGinn and youngster, but I am not too crazy about Tanguay. He is one of the softest players in the league, not to mention he is old and sucks. He is not bottom six material and he is not good enough to crack a team's top six.
Second line is really solid.
For the First line, Stastny needs to go in favor of a power forward, the Clowe/Clarkson type.
All in all, the 1st, 2nd, and 4th lines look pretty good.

Could we say that Tanguay mentoring players like McKinnon and Duchene make the avs better in the long run by providing desperately needed leadership for the avs? |

Flames clearly won this trade. They dumped a wimpy, soft, finesse ineffective player in Tanguay and a decent, but over the hill Sarich.
SOB is tough and will drop the gloves, and play physical. Nothing wrong in his game. If Jones isn't producing, at least he can play in the bottom six and be effective.

Almost all of the Avs core will need raises in the near future and they are trying to get rid of as many of (what was) Sob, Zanon, Hunwick as fast as possible. Wilson is still up in the air.
So I think it was a big part of this deal for the Avs. |

Trade looks fairly even. Might also be to help rebuild the broken bridge from the o'reilly offer sheet. So we may have just gained ourselves another trade partner. The best I think tangs would have gone for is a second rounder. Could see cammaleri go to a team with a ton of cap for a 2nd rounder as well. Maybe NJ or Phoenix |

Jones does have size but plays a really soft game. His skill mainly came from his speed which he lost after some of his injuries. If he can get some of the speed back I think he will bounce back.
In the end the Avs win because Sarich has a shorter contract. Talent wise I think it's a wash but Colorado got rid of 2 players they really didn't want on the team anymore. |

I don't see what so many people think Jones can play bottom 6? He is soft and bad in his own zone and has terrible possession numbers. |

That's good then. But the Avs gain there isn't necessarily the flames loss. So I say wash, essentially. |

You think Tanguay is a leader?? wooo, you got the wrong guy, Alex is about Alex.
Quit on Keenan and then quit again when Iggy was traded. He was brutal in Montreal and worse in Tampa.

What can you guys tell me about Sarich? - Meeqsb
mean player, physical
basically he's an older obrien.
Tangs is what evens it out for you. Gives you a set up man for Duchene and Landeskog.
Jones fills the flames need for size. And probably opens up a spot on wing to put Mackinon on.

he hardly quit on Keenan, Keenan wasn't using him properly. please don't tell me we've reached the point of revisionist history on Keenan.
he was already declining even before Iggy left. It's hardly about "quitting" or any other bullpoop narrative, fact is all 4 guys in this trade were in decline for one reason or another. |

I think he's a good fit to play with Baert/backland and will interchange playing with Stemper on that line.
Unless something big happens in CGY it will be Cammy/Hudler/GlenX as a 1st. But I expect cammy or hudler gone as well. |

Decent trade for both teams, nothing wow, just solid.
Tanguay and Sarich bring leadership. I believe both have rings
Jones may be able to get back to the 20 goal version of himself |

Stastny is definitely the odd man out. Seeing Tanguay live on multiple occasions, yes he is soft and his style can be frustrating to watch as he often turns over the puck in the neutral zone trying to create plays. He does have great hands and passing ability though, and in a sheltered role he would be solid getting the puck to MacKinnon. |

I would assume Sakic and Roy both know full well the player they are getting in Tanguay. If it backfires then the Avs buy him out instead of Jones and they still win by saving a bit of cash. |
