I'm probably in the minority, and I'm an outsider, but I actually think this is a good move. I think Richards was poorly suited for the style you guys played last year, and he has a good shot at reviving himself under AV.

Instead of listing everything, simply stated, the Rangers have $14.2M in available Capspace. You are underestimating the cost of Stepan, he will command at least 4.5-5M. McDonagh will as well. I'm thinking it will cost about 9.5M for the both of them. Zuccarello will not sign for 1.35M, thats just ridiculous. Even arbitration would award him more than that just based on comparable point per game production. Zucc will get about 2M and Hagelin will get about 2M as well. That really leaves only about 1M left and thats without signing a single backup Dman. If they bring up McIlrath, his cap hit will be 1.295 because he's a 1st round pick so its not even enough space to call him up, not to mention JT Miller if he needs to be called up. You need a 23 man roster, not a 21.

I personally think the only reason we didn't buy out Richards is because there isn't a guaranteed upgrade this offseason and I think that's what torts was waiting for, to see who was bought out. Richie WILL be bought out next year and there is no need to panic and think we are moving Brassard or Stepan. Why be upset with being stacked down the middle regardless of how bad Richie played he was still on pace to throw up 60 points not bad for a third line center who was unbelievably out of shape.

I don't where this unbalanced team is coming from...you have to believe Kreider will play better Miller will be able to play better, Richards wills better, Hags and Cally won't be playing with Torn labrums, possibly a healthy Ryane Clowe, ohh yeah and we will have Marc Staal back. Remember this team lost 3 close games to the Bruins who went to the Cup final.

I am pissed cause I have a feeling the plan is just to buy him out next year. Then why not do it now? Do they think they are winning the cup next year and are loading up?

The other thing is, no cap left to improve the club this year. Sign the RFAs and go to the season I guess. They better hope a new coach was the answer.
