So if Streit is worth 5.2 million. Andrew Ference is definitelt worth 3.5 million or more. Ference can actually, ya know, play some defense.

But hes not getting over 4 million.

For us, we cant pay him more than 2.75 million.

Staal will be ready to start the season and you will have him Mcdonagh, Girardi, Stralman, Moore, MDZ, and Eminger. Plus maybe Mcilrath will get a chance to make it. I think we are pretty much set on D. I don't think we need to make that many moves. Let's give it another go with this group. After really thinking about it I really think we should keep Richards for this one more season. I really think he is going to return to form. Yes he looked horrible last season in every facet of the game but I really think that had a lot to do with him not playing during the lockout and just being a step behind from the get go. Trust me it would be easy to just buy him out but I honestly don't see anyone in the FA market that I would rather have. Yea we might be running the risk just in case he gets hurt but I am willing to take the chance. Oh and btw count me in as someone who would like to go after Vinny if the money works. I think Richards is primed for a bounce back season. Telling you wouldn't be surprised at all to see 20-25 goals and 35-40 assists from him next season.
- adwolf130

You cant have both, its either Richards or Vinny... and there will be a team (MTL) willing to over pay a bit to get him.

Second, many of these hypothetical line ups dont involve Staal because there are rumors going around that NYR and CAR are discussing a trade, Staal for Skinner.

All signed in the wake of a 70.2 million dollar salary cap.
- aecliptic

Logically, a lower cap should lower players contracts. But there will still be that team or 2 willing to overpay because they're unattractive or need to get to the floor like Florida, the islanders, dallas, etc.

That will be up to Ference, whether he wants to get paid or if he wants to continue to play for Cup contenders.

I could see a team like the isles who are gonna make a few pushes to fill holes like their defense now that they can make the playoffs overpay for ference.

He's not signing here than. Cause teams will offer him more. Leafs, Islanders, Ottawa, Florida and Winnipeg all have the money to throw at him.

Yup but at the end of the day if the isles offer him an extra year or 2, a nmc, and 2 mill more per year, its tough to say no. Just ask prust.

IF theyre interested, thats another key part of the trade.

The Isles and Tronna, might give him a call.

Listen just because Staal's brothers are in Carolina doesn't mean that Marc is going to leave this organization. I can't stand why people think he is just going to jolt. Yes he is close with his brothers but I am sure that the time he has spent here he has formed very close friendships and the organization thinks very highly of him. This isn't Pittsburgh with Jordan. Just don't see him going anywhere. As long as his eye is okay and he returns to form, I think Marc will be here for a long time. Just my opinion.

Isles are a fringe playoff team, they might not need to do all that much, theyll be in competition with themselves.

I agree. Jordan was one prospect away from being a ranger so clearly Marc told him this place is worth signing with long term.

Yea I mean we dont know which teams will chase him or what they will offer or what he wants. I just don't see him taking a pay cut.

Edit: just realized he didn't make much

Putting aside what he does as a UFA in two years, would you trade him, right now, straight up for Jeff Skinner?

Well, any contract he signs this year wont be a "pay cut" cause last year he was making 2.25 million.

Its hard to say yes because its Marc Staal... but how many times will we ever be in a position again to get a 21 year old budding star forward? Not many.

Furthermore, we proved the last 2 years that our defense can hold up without Marc Staal and do fairly well. However, that was in a heavy defensive system. So......

Its a tough one.

Strong rumors as to the Staal-Skinner swap, but just speculation right now.

Also, have two tickets for Harvey Day today that I have to sell, let me know if interested. Section 516. Row 10

I think it's important to know what's at the root of this rumor. Has Staal's agent expressed to Slats that he plans to play only 2 more years, and would like to play with his brothers? Have the Canes reached out to Slats offering Skinner for multiple reasons, including their desire to shed his contract and satisfy the other Staal brothers? I think there are too many unknowns here, to draw a conclusion.

Too many rumors start because a reporter or someone thinks it makes sense when there is never any truth to it. Didn't hear any rumors about the Calgary Colorado trade yesterday. You hardly hear any rumors regarding legit trades that go down.
