I agree with you, but like OldSchool said, maybe Sather is trying to get a trade done. I can't imagine another team actually taking on his salary, but who knows? Maybe Calgary? - TheMessiah94
the longer this lasts, the more it better be that he is no longer on the team next year, some how, some way.
When he signed here, it came down to the Rangers or Calgary, and he chose the Rangers because it would be closer to home, and his family wouldn't have to watch games in a later time zone.
If he were traded, by some miracle, he still holds the cards with his NMC where he ends up. |

If sather is working on a trade, I don't think it involves Richards. They're probably waiting to see if they need to buy him out to get under the cap if for example we trade some picks and prospects for a guy like Ryan with a large cap hit.
If they dont acquire a top 6 forward in a deal, Richards will be a ranger. |

Buy him out, has to be done. He's a good guy & sucks he signed a long term deal here wanting to finish his career in 1 spot but this is a business. |

What it comes down to is if sather feels we have a chance at the cup next season, we need to keep him because of his intangibles, experience, the depth he provides, and because he can still be productive. If sather feels like we can't compete, he'll buy him out.
As awful as he looked last season, he was still on pace to put up over 60 points. |

I understand but the economics just play too big a role here, if he gets hurt we are screwed! |

I agree. But a cup is worth any price and that is sathers logic.
Maybe he rebounds and is productive the next 4-5 years and then we put him on ltir ala pronger for the remaining years? |

Strong rumors as to the Staal-Skinner swap, but just speculation right now.
Also, have two tickets for Harvey Day today that I have to sell, let me know if interested. Section 516. Row 10 |

The Canes trade Skinner for Staal, they free up $5.5 million in cap space and fill a need on defense, and then draft Barkov or Nichuskin at #5 to fill the offensive void left by Skinner. And, the Rangers get what they need upfront. |

If Staal is healthy, its a good hockey trade.

I certainly hope this Messier mess (no pun intended) has not taken Slats eye off the ball, this is a very crucial week for the club.
Its a sad state of affairs when the realization that if the Rangers keep Richards and win the Stanley Cup, it could very well be detrimental to the organization from a financial aspect. Fact of the matter is, even if Richards rebounds to even an above expectations level, the team as constructed right now is not cup ready. It truly begs the question, what the hell is going on at MSG? I hope Slats is just waiting for the phone to ring confirming a deal that will begin to clear it all up. |

Count me in as not caring about any long term implications of the Richards deal if they win the Stanley Cup this year. |

I would rather have the 5th pick, although I realize that would be a short term step back.

Same. Not sure carolina would be willing to do that tho since they probably wanna shed as much salary as they can. Adding staals 4 mil with skinners salary staying hurts. |

When he was on, he was a wrecking ball, loved him when he played. Too bad he was always hurt from being so reckless. The heartbeat. |

At the end of the day, there is risk with Skinner as well. He makes a sh*t ton of money, and I don't think he is an elite player. There is risk both ways. Maybe something can get done. |

I understand, but the fact remains they aren't good enough. They're are a few question marks, and a few holes still exist. |

Skinner was at $1.4 million, but is an RFA now, so you would be signing someone coming off what looks like it was a fairly significant concussion. |

Skinner is at $5.725 million per year for the next 6 years. |

Didn't skinner sign an extension worth around 5.5 mil a year? |
