Alex Tanguay and Cory Sarich traded by Calgary to Colorado for David Jones and Shane O'Brien. Who says you can't go back home again...

Alex Tanguay has been sent to a lot of teams in deals the last few years, no?

A good pickup for any team. Rangers will definitely make a run at him, I just wonder if Sather throws an overpayment, well.... :/

In all fairness, I'm sure anyone who gets him will overpay

Only team that might not is MTL if he really wants to play there.

So I thought Sather said the Richards news was coming "shortly?" The fact that they are debating this worries me a bit.

I heard Slats on XM radio on the way home, and he said if Mark wants to coach in the NHL he needs to get some experience ... spend some time behind a bench somewhere. Novel concept.

Report: Penguins offer Letang eight-year, $54M deal
- rangerdanger94

if he accepts this deal, they're gonna have about $19 mil cap space next offseason (assuming the cap stays the same) to sign 1 backup goalie, 4 more Dmen and 7 more forwards, including Sutter who will probably command 3-4.5 mil.

assuming the cap goes up a little bit, they'll have a little less than $2 million per player, which actually is doable. lock up a few guys for 3-4 mil and then lock up a few or have some kids step in for league min-1.5ish mil.

gonna be real tough for them tho.

Hearing that Letang camp informed Penguins earlier tonight that they were turning down an 8-year contract offer worth around $56 million...

Dbag is turning down 7 million a year for the next 8 years to play with Malkin and Crosby.

Whether more contract talks are coming or whether Pens put Letang on trade market remains to be seen...

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 1m
Also told that Letang camp counter-offered with a long-term deal which would pay less than $8 M (north of $7.5 M); Pens said too high

letang wants to get paid. don't blame him. i guess the whole "take a discount to play with the best players in the world for the best coach and best gm and best owner in the best city with the best fans" thing doesn't always work.

Literally if I was Shero I would trade him to Colorado or Edmonton. Trade him to a team that doesn't have a shot.

those teams will have shots soon though. colorado will have stasny, duchene, o'reilly, landeskog, parenteau, erik johnson, one of mackinnon/drouin/barkov/jones, and sakic/roy running the team. and we all know about edmonton.

i think they should trade him to like....calgary. now that would suck.

Crazy, watch him get hurt next year or something and miss out on the money in the end.

Is it worth it to hold out for potentially an extra 750k per year or around 8 million dollars total? Especially when you already have 56 million sitting on the table. He must want out of Pit or something.

sooo perfect gameplan:
rangers trade marc staal + fast + 2014 1st + 2013 3rd for the 5th overall pick in the draft and draft nichuskin.
next offseason, buyout richards and sign letang.

roster:
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Nichuskin - Brassard - Callahan
Clowe - Lindberg - Miller
Dorsett - Hendricks - Boyle

McDonagh - Letang
Girardi - Moore
MDZ - McIlrath

Not for nothing but if what Larry Brooks says is true that Glen Sather approached Mark Messier about the head coaching position I don't blame him at all for saying see you later. If it was me I would have said why did you ask me, have me run it by my family etc if me not having experience was going to be a problem. I would have said frank you Glen, how do you even still have a job as you choose your 6th coach in 13 yrs doosh bag.
