If something along the lines of 9th + Tallinder for Vanek + 16th happened I'd be all for it.

to get 4-5 good years out of vanek instead of 10-15 out of someone younger or a draft pick? he is 29 I think we should look to an established player around 23-26 if we move the pick

Well yes but at the same time we would likely still get a great player at 16 and possibly a better player than 9 depending on how they develop, you never really know with prospects and this year it seems the difference between 9 and 16 isn't too big, plus getting an established star in Vanek, I'd do that trade in a heartbeat.

No I like the idea I mean we still get 1st later albeit and a threat now plus get rid of one of our D. I just think all though Lou will never pull the trigger on any of these guys that E. Kane would be a great fit what is he 23 has scored 30 goals I believe and is just coming into his peak has a gritty size so we can still play a strong forecheck game he just screams perfect fit

I'd love E. Kane, probably over Vanek, but it seems much more likely the Sabres move Vanek than the Jets Kane so I'm partially going off that.

Yea for sure BUffalo is looking to move him so it would be a lot easier to get him but I don't know if feelings have since changed but I thought last year they talked about moving Kane that he didn't fit in well with how the team wanted to be viewed as or he was seen as being a little immature even before this season him waving wads of cash in vegas ( I don't think anyone should care about that )

Would you trade for Cammilari? Maybe if Calgary retained some of the cap. Top 6 forward I think a LW too.

Is he ? and I am not sure you didn't mention what we would be giving up but I don't overally like his attitude for being a little midget lol and he is on the wrong side of 30 but If he came cheap maybe he was traded for Bourque a few years ago so maybe he can be traded for Volchenkov now

Also why did we take Mattau over Pearson when we decided not to give up the first that year? he is a lot better offensively is it because he was a 19 year old going through his second draft ? just seems like the Kings might have gotten the better pick at 30 then we did at 29 or is it because Pearsons skill set don't make him a safe pick in that there is no certainty that he makes the NHL where Stefan can be a 3-4 liner? was thinking about this the other day.

you're missing the bigger picture. Once our kid turns into an established stud, he'll want to leave, and he will. It's nice to think we'll get 10-15 years out of him, but probably more like 4-8, depending on how good he is....

it would be nice, tho.. and 16 is still a really nice pick!

IDEALLY..

Vanek-Loktionov-Kovalchuk
Elias-Zajac-Clarkson
Tedenby-Henrique-Zubrus
Carter-Gionta-Bernier

at least we have one line that's a sure bet. .. our 4th line.

heck of a lineup that would be. too bad Elias, Clarkson, Vanek, and maybe even Henrique won't be there.

Greene-Larsson
Salvador-Gelinas
Volchenkov-Fayne

we could win with this lineup.

I wouldn't be so worried about only getting "5" years out of Vanek, because by the time he's 35, Boucher, #16, Matteau, Lokti, Henrique.. and MAYBE even Tedenby will be in their prime and on their A game. High hopes for at least one out of the 6 to be leaders on each of the top 3 lines.

what the previous poster suggested, but I'll add to it, because I don't think 9th+Tallinder for Vanek+16 would ever happen.

9th+Tallinder+next year's 3rd round for 16th+Vanek+next year's 4th round??

but Myers hasn't been nearly as good without his buddy Tallinder. That alone increases Tallinder's value. No way you're getting Henrique haha

Shinkaruk, Boucher, Matteau would make 3 solid players in the top 9. Then we have young guys Loktionov, Josefsson, Henrique, and hopefully Tedenby. In the future, that's 7 out of 9 top 9 forwards. Add Zajac and Kovalchuk, and you have a team for the next 8 years, theoretically. Hope these kids develop nicely.

Defense is a similar situation. Larsson, Merrill, Gelinas, Urbom, .. Severson and Scarlett.. even Burlon, is a nice handful of young guys to work with.. you never know how many will turn into legit top 4 Dmen. This year is going to be big for these prospects. I assume most will be in Albany. They're not 18 or 19 anymore.. should be coming along nicely.

the future looks bright. And that's just within our system. Sign or trade here and there and you have a well rounded team for the next decade!

myers hasn't been good because he hasn't shown up to training camp in shape. that has nothing to do with tallinder.

My trade proposal of 9th + Tallinder for 16th + Vanek is assuming an automatic extension for Vanek is NOT a contingent part of the deal. If Vanek signing an extension was guaranteed we'd have to up the offer, but if not I think that's fair.

I would put Gedig and Helgeson above Burlon, who seems like he's a bust.

Pass on peverly. If Clarkson leaves we need some size to replace him. That third line is tiny, the top line is pretty small, and our 4th line is probably smaller than most.
