We should pick Shinkaruk, but I have another option of what to do. IF we were to trade down I would trade to either Columbus (14th) or Buffalo (16th). According to: http://www.mynhldraft.com/NHL-Mock-Draft/ Shinkaruk could drop to 14th.

I would trade the 9th for the 14/16th, a 3rd this year and their first in 2015.

I say 2015 because if Columbus or Buffalo or the Devils don't make the playoffs in 2015 we would have two chances of winning the draft lottery to draft Connor Mcdavid (he's the next Crosby if you didn't know). Just a suggestion.

I can't see the Sabres trading next year’s 1st away. How about Vanek for the 9th? Add picks where you think necessary.

Yea I know I'm a broken record about this guy, but with the Avs looking at McKinnon, they have so much depth down the middle. I really want them to send pending UFA Stastny our way. He has family history with the team, top-6 talent, and is defensively responsible. Model citizen and all that too.

The Avs are looking towards O'Reilly and Duchene as their 1, 2 centers as it is and that is before McKinnon. Bonus, they are looking to bulk up on defense too. We have the cap room (obviously) to sign Stastny. The way I see it is that it is much better to have too many centers and then shop guys like JJ or Lokti, than to not have enough top-6 talent. I think Lou would love his personality and work ethic like he does with Zajac.

It's not next year's pick, it's 2015, two years from this draft. I like Vanek, but it makes no sense to trade for a 29 year old player with a year on his contract and we would have to pay out of the ass to keep him. Whereas, we could draft Shinkaruk or whoever and have a guy that will fit in the top 6 or we could trade for Ryan, like others are mentioning and have to years on a guy that was born about a hour and a half away from the Rock.

I wouldn't mind and it would definitely improve our faceoff percentage. We would either have to trade someone like Volch, Tallinder or Sal to eat his 6.5 cap and it depends on how much he would resign, but I like Statnsy, so yes. Henrique would definitely have to be put on the wing.

Stastny is not a very good 2-way player. If we're going to get an irresponsible 2 way center, might as well get Briere for 4m cheaper. He'll only get 15 less assists in a season

:O slander! I don't watch all that many Avs games, but everytime I've watched he's backchecked and the whole nine yards. Small sample though, I suppose

Stastny and Briere are not the same type of player....

I dont see many Avs games, but Stastny certainly didnt look irresponsible in the Olympics a few years back. Perhaps its the Avs system and lack of depth behind E. Johnson (who also looked awesome in those Olympics....)

That said, I dont know if Their price and his 6.6 cap number is a worthwhile addition to the top 6.

I had originally hoped for a guy like Kesler, but now that they have hired Tortorella, I doubt he gets moved. His kind of player.

Terry Frei of ESPN has said that "... his game isn't flashy and eye-popping as much as it is heady, intuitive and efficient"

I'm on board with that kinda guy on the Devils. But yeah, 6.6 is a bad contract, but it ends in a year so we wouldn't have to take it on for long. Who are we kidding, we won't be at the ceiling, so I think we can manage his cap hit. I also doubt he'd get that again in his next deal.

I saw him play a few times live cuz my brother is an Avs fan. He's fast, he's slick, good puck handler... but when I did stats on him, his two way play was among the worst on his team both times, and I account for the fact he plays for the Avs. Maybe he's getting a little better in that department, but it still doesn't justify that price tag. Zajac and Lokti are comparable in offense and JJ and Zajac are better 2 way players.

He was good at the world championships. I'll give him that.

Yeah but he's actually able to score, unlike JJ. Well let's say he plays with Elias and Henrique I'm sure he'd do just fine. Besides Duchene, Langdaskog, and O'reilly who do they have? I'm not saying that as an insult I just don't know beyond those guys. Maybe Downie and Hejduk and Jones, but I think they plan on buying him out.

Fact is devils scouts already have their sights set on someone, just like parise. If they see that person will be available later they'll trade down. Lets just hope we're done with the Swedish experiment and draft from another country

if ristolainen(sp?) was still available at 9, i'd love to see ottawa take a run.

17th + matt puempel (1st rd pick in 2011, pure goal scorer)

for 9th

I'd only do the trade if there was a guarantee Vanek would re-sign with us. He's 29, so 6 years 40mil? It'll give him same cap as Kovy, 6.6666666. I'd do it. He's a great talent and we'll have the space. 13mil tied up in 2 all-star wingers in their prime? a lot smarter than some other crazy deals thrown around. only about 1 mil more than ZAJAC!.

but there will be no guarantee, so there's no point. .. even tho we did re-sign Kovy.

Can't believe the robbery Colorado pulled with Tanguay. If we could've gotten him for so cheap that would be a GREAT fit next to Kovy! bah.

he's actually been pretty good, 35 goals in 50 games in the OHL this past season. not gonna win the selke or anything, but will score some goals. probably our best prospect on teh wing, or maybe 2nd best (noessen)

Thats not really saying all that much considering half of your prospects kinda made the team this past season

all of ottawa's prospects that had jr eligibility left, played in jr.......including guys like ceci, puempel, and noessen, who are probably our 3 best prospects (i don't consider guys like zibby and silfverberg prospects anymore). the guy probably isn't going to win the calder, but he will very likely be a top six quality player, and IMO is pretty fair compensation to move up 8 spots in the draft
