Guess you haven't followed along. Gillis has said a number of times that there will be no buyouts.
- IanEsplen

Who isn't following along? The Canucks with their current roster of 15 skaters and 2 goalies are within 47K of the Cap...
meaning they have 47K to sign 6 players for the league minimum of $550K per year... again i ask
"Who isn't following along Ian?"

edit: this better?

It's too obvious.

A little subtlety might do the trick next time

I believe Gillis was asked about buyouts after the Torts press conference and didn't comment on it. I'd be shocked if Ballard isn't bought out(assuming he has no trade value).

And seriously, I think everyone realizes that Luongo and Ballard will both be gone no matter how or in what way(buyouts if needed).

Yup, which means that Ballard is as good as gone. Hopefully this Luongo saga can end as well this Sunday!
- Nucker101

agreed... so that gives them 4.2million for 6 guys (@550K is 3.3mil) and when was the last time a guy signed for league minimum?

it's not pretty, i don't get the constant denial of the situation.... MG would probably gain a lot of respect if he just met it head on and stopped telling the nuck fans that he's got 3-4 offers with 1st round picks that he has to choose between. now he hasn't said this most recently, but he has said it throughout the year.

With Ballard bought out, Luongo claimed/bough out. And assuming Lack is the backup. That gives them 8.8 million for 4 forwards and 2 depth d-men. I bet one of the forwards will be Schroeder at around 1 million. Tanev will be one of the d-men at around 1.5 million. That leaves around 6.3 million for 3 forwards and a #7 d-man.

There is no choice but to keep Booth... because he is currently injured he cannot be a bought out, and the chance to buy him out ends on july 4th or 5th...

- Rockhead_37

That's for compliance buyouts this year, there is always next year, or a regular buyout, or a trade, or placing him on waivers before the season. There are plenty of options.

I think if Lu was being bought out it would have been done by now to clear cap for the draft. Most players and teams have announced who they intend to buy out.

Doesn't look good for Schneids .

Lu is a good goaltender, is he the best in the league, no but he's still top ten IMO. A better team in front of him would be very very capable of winning.

Trading Schneider, although a difficult decision, moves the team into a better position moving forward.

I think Gillis will try to pull a trade out of his ass, but if he can't then waiving him is the best option. Again, I think it would be a mistake to trade Schneider and keep Luongo or trade Luongo for a minimal return.

Who knows, I could see him trading Schneider instead even though I'd hate that.

otherwise i agree

so what is the contract? does he have a NMC or just a NTC?
and if waived and not claimed.... doesn't it still count on the cap? eliminating the wade redden factor?

What if Canucks held onto Lu for 4 years and then put him on waivers? You get solid goaltending while the prospects develop . Then a team trying to reach the floor pays one year of 6.7 and then and then3.3 and then down to 1 mil . The team picking him up would be responsible for recapture?

NTC. And if he doesn't get claimed you almost have to buy him out at that point. If the TB owner is willing to buyout Vinny(without even getting playoff revenue) then Aquilini should be able to buyout Luongo. Cap its still count if he's in the AHL.

Profit sharing helps pay out vinny. Canucks don't get profit share. It is the rest of the NHL buying out Vinny. Stupid Buttman penalized the league.

As long as Wang has a team anything is possible. A team would take his cap for a decent prospect down the road.

My view is Bettman is the dumbest fuk on this earth and he would bite off his nose to spite his face. Oh yeah and he is corrupt.

He looks like he is getting weak and fragile. Hopefully the old bastard is gone soon.
